Tell me you don’t know whats healthy for game the by directly telling me you don’t know whats healthy for the game.
We survived fine for 3 full tiers before it without those extra badges
Dude, seriously.
Like - this just seems really obvious to me that he’s talking about the Dungeon Finder - RDF, LFD, whatever you call it - the entire time.
I wouldn’t have it any other way. I much prefer people who question any kind of perceived authority, even if it means they hate my guts.
And I’m saying it’s highly unlikely they were thinking of RDF before launch.
RDF was a cool new thing when it was being developed.
I could 100% believe pardo wanted an LFG tool though, even xrealm
How do you know? All we have are his words, and it definitely sounds like he wanted a tool like it - especially since he said, “our third try at a proper LFG tool, and this one gets it right”.
That sounds like RDF is something he was happy with after working on multiple systems until he, “got it right”.
What’s the point in this argument, anyway? Is it to try and argue that RDF doesn’t match the original intentions of the dev team?
Well, they were a part of Wrath the entire time. Up until and even immediately after the Dungeon Finder was implemented they were daily quests in Dalaran. They moved them to LFD because the daily dungeon and daily heroic were different dungeons on different servers so you’d have one server specifically Queueing for Violet Hold, while everyone on another server wanted Halls of Lightning, and no groups were being formed. Take away the cross-server aspect and you don’t have that problem and can move the badges back to the quest givers. But they’re a Wrath Feature unless you think they should remove more features.
No, I’m prordf, just not reading it the same way you guys are.
They were talking about the EXTRA badges beyond the daily feature. (which was actually weekly when RDF first came in)
I don’t remember extra badges, but I am old. With the removal of the cross-server aspect (or even if it stays in, but just for the sake of compromise) only the badges from the daily quests. Agreed?
Just leave the daily quest in, make it so you have no reason besides wanting to use the RDF tool, there’s the compromise
IT wasn’t changed to weekly till Cata, wrath it was still daily.
Are you sure? I could have swore it was weekly UNTIL cata.
If it was cata, I don’t remember it being there the whole time, I feel like it was short lived as a weekly thing (though that was much better for players, go figure)
It was daily until 3.3 at which point they were removed in favor of the rdf
The difference was wrath had multi tier badges unlike TBC. Your first daily got the current highest tier badge your second got the second tier badge. At launch that was just two daily quests with LFD it was changed to being able to spam LFD for the second tier badge.
I don’t think many people would care if that was left as two daily quests.
Historically there is a lot of evidence to suggest that Blizzard wanted a dungeon finder tool months before WOTLK launch.
Heroics weren’t very popular in TBC for multiple reasons. They were extremely overtuned, and subsequently nerfed later in the expansion.
The effort didn’t match the reward.
Heroics were inconvenient. Like the useless tool we have now, nobody used it in original TBC. You had people just spamming chat trying to get dungeon runs
Overall, content that I’m sure blizzard thought would be a massive hit compared to how bland vanilla was, turned out to be a failure. How would Blizzard make their content more relevant?
Nerf dungeons into the ground so they weren’t a wipefest like TBC. Give them decent, well itemized rewards. Give players a way to make these heroics more accessible, via the RDF tool. This not only incentivized max level players to run heroics, it also made every other dungeon in the game accessible. The RDF tool single handedly made inconvenient and inaccessible content relevant, and it provided millions of players with an actual method to feel like they were part of the game and progressing like everyone else.
Cata changed a lot about badges. It was changed to a weekly cap on how much VP you could get per week which could come from raids or LFD, so no fixed number.
I would very much believe they wanted it earlier than 3.3 though. Pretty sure they wanted Dual Spec in earlier than 3.1 too.
It’s so ridiculous to see people recommending removing the bonus rewards from LFD. Do they really think it’s good game design to eliminate reasons for people to do content? I’m specifically talking about 3.3 and beyond since emblems of triumph allowed you to buy recently outdated tier sets…which obviously don’t exist at Wrath’s launch. But once ICC is in, it should be as it was back in 2009-2010.
No-LFD only promotes the “meta or bust” mentality we already see fostered in TBC.
