Hello mages, just hit 2.1k on my rogue and kinda done sitting in LFG on this char. I want to level/gear an alt and have been trying to decide between arcane mage and a few other classes, arcane is really the only mage spec that I enjoy, but I feel like by not playing fire I’m not gonna get any rated queues and will just end up doing random bgs because of how bored I am.
I also personally enjoy arcane! If you’re not doing min/max high end mythics, in PVE you’ll totally be fine.
Fire seems to be super good in arenas right now so there’s not a lot of arcane in 2s and 3s. Arcane does great in BGs however.
Arcane can be pretty decent in arenas, if you can hit 2.1k as a rogue you can prob hit at least 1800 as an arcane mage.

Ya I’m honestly just looking for a fun spec that can be enjoyed during random bgs/duels/ wpvp will occasionally push 2s or 3s
Arcane definitely feels like it has a lot more control over its survivability in pvp than fire. And it feels a lot more fun in duels and just running around in bgs, I never play fire in random bgs, always frost or arcane.
Arcane is pretty difficult in arenas but if you’re good at PvP generally I think it can work. The damage is definitely there, and utility/survivability is actually pretty high.
It can be very frustrating though. Unlike fire you really can’t deal that much damage without hard casting anything, so you really need to play around kicks. And dueling as arcane can be pretty rough for the same reason.
This. Arcane is very much a foot-plant spec. Damage is fine if you can stand there and blast away.

Not going to regurgitate everything that’s been said in other threads, but don’t bother with arcane in arena. You’ll find a million threads on why it sucks in arena.
