We can’t know officially because Blizz refuses to post sub numbers anymore. But based on all the bad PR they’ve been doing and the bad rep that they’ve earned themselves I’d say it’s in a pretty bad state right now. For me it’s the worst it’s ever been personally.
I completed this quest just a few weeks ago.
The quality of BfA is definitely on the low end. Like not only are there a bunch of bugs, but I also think the extreme negligence toward class design and balancing is a huge problem.
They were MUCH more pro-active with balancing in Legion. And AP design, legendaries, world quests, mythic+, and all that was in a much more enjoyable state in Legion also.
But if you class is fun and competitive, you’re much more inclined to play and enjoy things even if they aren’t amazing. Like half the classes in the game are tuned pretty poorly from a competitive standpoint looking at M+ and raids. I don’t know much about PvP. But tuning and design of classes in BfA is a giant turd overall.
Also both Islands and Warfronts are HUGE flops in my opinion. I haven’t done a single island in quite some time because I think they are some of the worst content that’s ever been put in the game. AP grinding for eternity, and raids/M+ being useless for AP sucks. Trinkets provide no excitement. Classes very mediocre in general coming off of Legion.
The changes to M+ and the Azerite system have been pretty huge, and made them nice. But Islands and Warfronts are awful, classes struggle massively. Balancing is a joke at the moment (where are the hotfixes???). The quality is definitely lower in BfA than anything since MoP at least.
I have a hard time with this. Like the quality of Warlords was great, the amount of content was just pretty garbage. But it had some great raids, the challenge modes were well received. Class design was also pretty solid in this expansion. Tier bonuses and class trinkets coming in during Hellfire Citadel + some of the trinkets there made for some really interesting and fun classes to play.
I get it, it was raid or die, but at least the content that was there was well done.
Very much disagree and you are wrong about “Hard to deny”. Let’s see here.
Cata
- Destroyed some zones in Vanilla for the worst and for good (meaning we will never see that again unless you play Classic whenever it decides to come out).
- ZG and ZA raids revamped. ZG was the worst revamp as it isn’t anything like the original.
- Changed most of the Vanilla 5 man dungeons for the worst and now we are stuck with them thanks to Cata.
- Removed/Added all new quest chains. The one in Westfall I hate with a passion how they changed a lot of it.
- Worst raids ever for the most part. The only one that was just okay was Firelands.
- Worst final boss of the expansion raid and fight. You have Deathwing who destroyed lands and his fight is first you jump on his back and blow up his armor in an incredibly stupid right you just run back and forth on. Then, the actual final fight you destroy his claws hanging on the sides with worms growing out of them. Then you just dps his head once you destroy the claws. Stupidest end boss to the expansion fight ever.
So yeah, BfA doesn’t even come close to how bad Cata was.
WoD
- Expansion with the least amount of content.
- Major issues at launch including queue times of 13+ hours for a couple of days.
- Flying completely removed until we were able to at least give us their compromise.
- A patch containing a selfie camera which was the main part of the patch.
- Garrisons which kept people locked away but it didn’t matter since there wasn’t much to do.
- Very hard to maneuver terrain since we were grounded most of the expansion. At least now it isn’t that difficult at all.
BfA imo is still way better than WoD too.
So yeah, pretty easy to deny BfA is not the worst state WoW has ever been in.
i wasnt going to comment on this thread anymore but really?
grinding argent dawn reputation is more meaningful than grinding proudmore admirality/zandalar rep?
doing quests that required you to go different dungeons and complete the questline to get “attuned” for a dungeon is more meaningful than completing the storyline and doing dungeons to unlocking the pre-requisites of an allied race?
honestly, how much of your game play experience is actually being time gated? Or is that just a word you throw around because you hear people say it a lot and it kinda makes sense?
the last instance of time gating actually happening was actually the broken shore, and that was legion, people liked that expansion even.
were there things this expansion that required time to unlock? Yes,
could they be unlocked in a reasonable amount of time? very much so
This is 100% what it is. And apparently most of the community has fell for it
Disagree.
WoD was significantly worse, as there was quite literally nothing to do but Raid. They couldn’t even be bothered to add daily quest or rep rewards, you had to grind mobs for hours for nothing. They even cut out half the story of the expansion involving Shattarath and Yrel.
BFA actually has stuff to do. Even if most of that stuff is infuriating and half baked.
I’m playing FFXIV right now and enjoying it a lot more than BfA. There are still MMOs out there that actually care about their customer feedback and can still design a fun, enjoyable game where even things like new races aren’t time gated grinds. And I can fly!
The worst state WoW has ever been in was undoubtedly vanilla. Classes were the worst they have ever been by far, encounters were boring and far too simple. The next worst I’d have to say was WoD. 25%, at least, of the expacs content was cut, along with a horribly stupid and confusing storyline.
Blizz is getting that reaction quite a bit because they do strange, off the wall things like the BFA GCD changes when no one wanted or asked for them, we were told to let them know how we like it, an overwhelming amount of us said we didn’t and it’s still here… Because reasons?!
I don’t get it. I just don’t get it. Why Blizz?!
I don’t think you know what the level squish would imply. The scale will normalize to 60, so the xp needed to level up will increase proportionally. In other words, you will not level faster, but each level will last longer.
It is a level squish, not a level cut.
To be fair I’m not at endgame on this character yet so I’m enjoying leveling much more than the last time I played her, trying to PUG raid in WoD. That was an all time low, I had everything I wanted but my weapon and still quit in disgust.
I’d say we’re on a downward slope from Legion (artifact weapons were just entirely too cool) but in WoD my brother and I literally ran out of fun things to do entirely.
Also, that seemingly endless year of Timeless Isle and Garrosh. I sat most of that out too.
Remember the game has been this low before, for me at least, and I’ve been following the game since inception (didn’t play until BC rebalanced the classes, so for me all of vanilla was a hot mess).
Whether it will go up again or further down the drain remains to be seen.
A lot of your issues are subjective though, the vast majority in fact. Personally, I’d rather have nothing to do than things I hate but have to do. I didn’t have to get a selfie cam. I had to participate in this stupid war campaign even if I dont care about the faction war in BFA for flying. That sucks.
Like G’huun was worse than Deathwing I think, because if I was on my monk I was always, always a dedicated orb runner. Same for warriors, demon hunters, anyone with mobility. That sucked so bad, I hated it so much but I had to do it. Deathwing I still got to tank/heal/DPS AND my classes weren’t pruned down/pointlessly changed.
Daze in BFA blows due to ridiculous mob density everywhere. Advantage here is WoD.
Personal loot blows. Tier is gone. I forget I have a mission table half the time because it’s the opposite of rewarding.
We can get honor from fighting bots… What?! How is the PvP community NOT in outrage over this?!
I’d take WoD over BFA any day, and that’s my personal opinion, only because class design was far far far better and there was none of this Azerite system trash even the devs admitted was so bad they’re partially abandoning the whole concept.
I think everyone forgets to hit the zeppelins thats where the big points are!
This current development team seems to have a “Our way, or the highway” design philosophy.
If they like the way the game is, it doesn’t much matter what we think. Though i’m sure a lot of people have taken that highway by now.
A number of us have already. The biggest factor for me is class fun. Most simply aren’t fun to play anymore. My brother is considering quiting soon since the only thing they seem to do is come out on raid day.
Honor level 17, virtually no arena achievements. Looks like there is a large portion of the game you don’t play and thus your opinion is just as easily dismissed.
It’s pretty bad.
I don’t remember WoD being this detested until you got further into the lull period of no content.
BFA has been bad since launch and that’s saying something.
I’d take WoD over this any day. At least our classes felt fun to play. I am so so so so so bored with this Moba style class design.
