World Update Idea

Ah ****. I goofed it.

Nah, Malfurion promised Elerethe Renferal that he would tend to Alterac Valley in her name. But Drek’Thar never liked Sylvanas or what the Forsaken became under her, so he’d probably get along with Malfurion, like Thrall does.

There has got to be a balance though. Some places don’t have night at all. I was in Feralas last night and it was still day time. Others place are just slightly darker but not actually night, like Silvermoon City. Good thing I have the inky black potion. They also need to adjust the lighting effects to accommodate night time. For example the moonwells should all be glowing like they are in Legion.

Agreed. They need to show that time has passed and actually changes have happened.

That would be nice.

A few specific ideas:

Gadgetzan:
Another interesting idea is a large revamp to Tanaris. Specifically to Gadgetzan, and I’d like to see it become… effectively… what was shown in the Hearthstone Expansion for it. A huge bustling slum-city with a three way gang war going on in the underbelly / back alleys of the city. Having the questing experience where you could pick sides, double cross to join other sides, and all sorts of chaos you could get up to in that city could make that zone into it’s own minor leveling experience, especially with world quests, story lines, mounts / pets, etc. Maybe even gang-specific pvp that would allow for some cross faction interaction.

That Hearthstone expansion really captured my imagination a few years ago on what sort of action / amazing experience we could have in a city that was more up to date / larger in scale (like Suramar) and it could provide a really exciting leveling experience / max level content with the scaling system allowing all players to engage with it.

Goblin / Gnome Deep Diving:
One fun idea (and way to reuse assets) is to use a phased zone of the “Deep Sea” area we use to find Derrick, as well as the Gnome / Goblin Submarines. Make it an activity you can earn tokens to do by doing Goblin / Gnome content, and once you can purchase an air tank it takes you to the zone. You are given so much power, and start in the Gnome / Goblin Submarine. Telling you that the pressure will crush you if you lose power, so the system has a “Completely-fail-safe, 100% safety guaranteed*” recall system if you run out. You then go out into the dark and basically do some scuba treasure diving. Throw in some references and allow players to get some rare treasures from other random content through it, and it’s sure to be popular.

Whatever happened to Kun-Lai:
My last idea brings us back to Pandaria. I’d really like to see the Horde / Alliance work more on East/West wind camp to make them into proper Pandaren towns with actual non-tent buildings. It’s been a few years at least, and both of those are, effectively, the only factional Pandaren towns in the game. Let there be quests to help continue rebuilding those places, and slowly add an inn/bar, some farming fields, and a few houses. Make the places into towns that actually are interesting to be in, that get phased in through questing, and then provide a stream of World / Daily quests to have your faction help out the rest of the zone / Pandaria.

Thats fun, I love Goblin and Gnome content, and a minigame like the sea searching sounds super fun, heres to hoping we get the turtle submarines!

Sure, but consider how many people have day jobs and can only log on in the evenings (when they’re not in quarantine, anyway). I don’t blame the devs for erring on the side of “lighter,” even though I agree it’s not super-realistic.

I said balance meaning that it doesn’t have to be super dark but not day light either. There has to be a balance between the two, a midway point.

I think Twilight Highlands is a promising area for Horde settlement. Wildhammers should of abandoned it during their scattering in Legion. The Horde is having peons build or at least maintain their current settlements there. Dragonmaw Port is what Orgrimmar’s port should have looked during Cata reconstruction. Maybe the Thunderlord beastmasters brought with them Rylak mounts. It would be interesting to see how the Dragonmaw will react to seeing the ancestors’ mounts. I would like to believe they’ve moved on to proto-drake breeding. It would be a cool nod to why we have high res glad proto-drake mounts.

Horde beastmasters could have a monopoly on the exotic beast trade which I think is a really cool way to world build. They already have access to the more Alliance feeling mounts like gryphons from the Twilight Highlands. They even have access to chimeras and hippogryphs from Horde territory in Ashenvale. Honestly, beast taming is such a Horde thing. I was genuinely surprised with the lack of Horde monsters in the war. I suppose Blizzard just checklisted that with the Zandalari.

It would be neat if the Horde started introducing Draenor wildlife to Azeroth in an effort to fend of their extinction. I wonder if the druids will feel okay with the Horde releasing invasive wildlife into Azeroth. Talbuks and Clefthoofs don’t really have a natural location in Horde territory though.
