20 years ago I was wrapping up a semester in college before leaving for a job in the middle of nowhere. I’d been playing WoW beta and loved it but I wasn’t sure I would have feasible internet where I was going, so I didn’t buy it on launch day. Started the following January.

In college, playing Magic and D&D in the dorm. Everyone got it at launch though I had to wait a couple of days because of a computer issue that needed to be fixed. Before WoW my computer game of choice was DotA Allstars.
People are still no lifing d2 in 2024.

They were supposed to get bucklers too, but it was removed in alpha. Alpha was insane, I wish we got the alpha talent system.
True that. I have people in my guild rn playing that and I grill them, I think they don’t like me because of it lol. I call them “D2 scum”. But I’m just being cheeky, I don’t actually like or dislike Diablo, I never really played it, I was an RTS kid.
Playing Diablo 2, making sure my homework was done, and hoping that I got Half-Life 2 for Christmas.
I got both Half-Life 2 and World of Warcraft.

I had just turned 30, started my own tech company, and was married with a 7 year old son and 5 year old daughter. I got into WoW because of 4 of my techs who were playing it at the time, but not til Jan 2006. So I am coming up on my 19th year.

But a game called World of Warcraft most certainly did!
