Yes, people are rightly pointing out the Alliance bias. Blizzard acknowledges that is the case.
They just expect Horde Fans to wait through this Expansion for Horde content down the line at some point…. ?
Blizzard also said there would be primordial/proto Trolls in Dragonflight. Before Dragonflight launched. And then they never appeared.
Blizzard mentioned Troll lore in Dragonflight prior to launch… and then they never came through. With the way things are going so far, I see the same thing with any promise of Horde content.
Excuse me if the Argus Patch set the Standard for Alliance Domination of the Story and Gameplay , while The War Within takes it to a new level.
So, they basically say this entire expansion will be about the Alliance, and only a future expansion may include more Horde representation.
Now, this Alliance focus didn’t start in TWW either, it’s been going around since Legion, so I think they’ll throw a bone or two to the Horde next expansion and call it a day.
So I logged in after several weeks and I found a new quest waiting for me.
I’m told to go meet Khadgar, the human mage. When I meet him, he’s talking to Jaina, you know, one of the main Alliance figures. After that, Alleria joins the quest. You know, one of the Alliance leaders.
After helping the void elves (an Alliance race), we have to deal with some fake Turalyon (you know, the human paladin) and then we go back to talk with Khadgar.
The most hilarious part is that at this point the characters suddenly remember the Horde exists and mention it. And it’s like “Oh, yeah, I gotta go tell Thrall, because, I guess the Horde exists”.
And the quest is finished.
I think this quest lets us know very clearly what will be the Alliance and Horde roles in this expansion.
blizzard hate the horde, dont believe them.
they just killed two warchiefs in a row, laid two sieges on orgrimmar, and killed almost every horde character who just tried to help their people, portraying them as the villain all time
I cant trust a single word from the same guys who thought a escalation 2.0 in bfa would be a good idea, and they just made it worse than the original, plus they killed rastakhan, their entire zandalari fleet, and left alliance without a single loss
thats why I only play alliance now, horde is dead. they’re either punching bags or alliance puppets
I’d go further to say that, while the Alliance exists in itself in the story, the Horde nowadays only exists as a complement to the Alliance.
The Horde’s actual 2 roles are more like sidekick and villain, depending on what the Alliance needs at the moment.
If there’s an external enemy, the Horde is a sidekick to the Alliance. This seems to be pretty much the role in TWW for the most part. You could remove the Horde entirely and the story works the same, the Horde is there as a forced sidekick.
The second role is that of a villain. If the Alliance needs an enemy to make their story move forward, then the Horde becomes the villain, up to the point of having Horde locations as raids.
It doesn’t seem like this 2nd role will be required of the Horde during TWW, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they somehow make the Horde the villains in some patch.
Dude, that was more than a decade ago (and in Draenor it’s more a matter of Alliance = good, Horde = bad).
Then, ever since Legion it has been the Alliance as the main characters and the Horde either villains or sidekicks.
Look at Shadowlands, for example, who are the main faces during the expansion?
Anduin is clearly the main character, with Sylvannas acting as the villain for the most part, with some redeeming at the end. Look at the starting storyline, we have Bolvar (an Alliance hero) as the main character and face of the expansion. Then we venture into the Maw with a story heavily focused on Anduin, with Jaina as the second most important character. Only after her Thrall has some moments (the infamous moment of finding him an axe) and then we have Baine being discarded as worthless, giving some clues on Anduin and then be left to sit in a corner for the entire expansion.
I mean, sure, at the start of this game and for a while there was a Horde bias, but that’s way too old to justify having the Alliance as the main characters for all of modern WoW.
While I get this, I’m sure there will be others who will forget or not even read it and begin thinking that the horde is being ignored in favour of the alliance and that eventually we’ll all just be alliance.
So I don’t expect the forums to change much, if at all. That’s what makes this place so entertaining.
To Everyone/Anyone who cares: Just keep on being you.
Nope, that’s not how things should work. They should aim to have both factions in the spotlight.
And even if it was a matter of compensating for the past, which is a ridiculous strategy, but if it were to come to that, that happened long ago and it’s been long compensated already. It isn’t a matter of the Alliance “starting to move the plot forward”, the Alliance has been the center of this game since Legion. It’s been long enough to compensate for that old past.
It’s not about focus. It’s about how we use to have our own individual quests and how that’s no longer a thing. I don’t want to play through Alliance quests. Sorry.
And for most expacs they balanced story except for more recent ones anyway.
