Rawrlol I have a question that’s been bugging me for a while so since you’re here I’m asking you
Did vanilla wow have a story? Like with SL we have The Jailer and Sylvanas and everything that goes with that and a main campaign leading us to a conclusion but vanilla didn’t have that did it? It was just a bunch of zones with independent stories with some of them being connected but mostly not. There was no Ragnaros story was there? People just did Molten Core because they knew it was there. AQ may have had a story because of the gate opening event, not sure about Naxx.
Basically. The main pvp mmo, imo, out is EVE. and they have numbers transparency. We see the people logged in count in launcher.
It might top out at 40k if something big is going on.
Ofc you then have to factor in who are actual players. I know for some things I do I’d be 3 of those 40K in a multibox.
As I have 2 paid accounts till end of this month and I use a free alpha account a free and cheesy scout for a 3rd.
I will jump them through a gate and not give a care as to if they die horribly on the other side. they die so that my main (and their expensive ships) lives. Scout died to a monster gate camp…I go find me a better router lol.
Vanilla wow’s focus was on the “world” part. There was no overall story, but there were lots of little questlines here and there. Often in the middle of nowhere just waiting for you to stumble across them.
There was also almost nothing to do at max level in vanilla wow. It’s the only time I’ve ever been unsubbed from the game (I came back soon after BC released).

Yes, doubly so since there was no quest marker and you had to read text usually. You had to do an entire chain for the onyxia unlock and ragnaros was there for a reason. It was a lot more adventure compared to these days esque but the story was still there. And then there is a fact that a lot of those zones are connected by WC3, something a lot of people trying World Of Warcraft played.

Horde was very unfinished at launch to be honest XD
The complaints I’ve heard are along the lines of “The game is on rails”. People didn’t like having a story they had to follow and couldn’t deviate from. Like with Legion you pick where you want to go from the start to quest. There’s a ‘get you there’ story and a class hall story but other than that just go where you want.
I share a bit of that tin foil
Many small stories all around the world, I’d say.
Not 1 big overhanging story like its been ever after.

Where some go this why we say the RPG element is kind of lacking .
Some Sp RPG still has this. I am split skyrim/fallout right now and main story has only been scratched both. Side quest hopping is the reason for those saves.
That little itty bitty part of the map I never visited? Yeah…its getting visited now finally.
Damn…I found something new on reroll number 10. And its not even modded in lol. Its vanilla says the wiki. Amazing things happen when you say screw that quest marker on the compass…I will go left not right this time.
Wow…doesn’t really give a reason to go left not right. BFA was fun times for treasures hunters. Really made it worth it to not b-line to next breadcrumb. 15 war resources…so generous. Sl ain’t much better. Korthia you do this for the 2-4% on the weekly fill the bar quest. Revendreth? Man even with flying I don’t treasure hunt. Depressing activity really.
