World of Warcraft: Classic Frustration

i bought the darth vader collector’s box, shaped like vader’s helmet (eek shades of ben solo) that you could put your figures in. then began the task of filling up all the little compartments.

alas, my kids lost all the weapons and accessories, left the figurines out where the dog would chew their heads/hands/feet off and turn the rifles, sabers and so forth, into twisted plastic globs, until there was nothing left. even the head was discarded because it had been chewed on and wouldn’t snap closed anymore.

didnt have enough foresight to hide the thing. just put it up high on a shelf with the admonition they should leave it alone as it was a collectible. the concept of collectible did not exist in their lexicon. hehe

I know your pain. All my NASCAR collectibles from the late 90s -earlier 2000s, are up where the kids can’t reach and they aren’t allowed to play with them.

Haha. watch 'em. i mean, in hindsight, i got my money’s worth since it gave the kids and apparently the dog, hours and hours of entertainment. it was a bit unfair to have such a fun and imaginative toy on a shelf in a house full of kids and then not let them play with them. probably should’ve bought two of each figure, one for the head and an unopened one, since an unopened figure is alot more valuable than one that’s been removed from the packaging.

Yeah, all my NASCAR collectibles have been never been opened. But I’d seen what they do to their toys. And what the dog does to their toys.

i got in creative mode one day and really felt compelled to paint. i didnt have a canvas, so picked a large, canvas shaped piece of plywood and began to paint the empire strikes back cover art, on it. it was my best painting ever. i leaned it against the wall to dry then went to bed.

next morning i awoke to find my son had decided he wanted to paint as well, and had taken the gold paint and painted huge swaths of gold paint all over the artwork. hehe. its moments like that you know the universe is testing you - what is more important, YOUR art or your SON’s.

Doesn’t mean there isn’t an urge to back hand them into next week.

What was more important, John’s black and white drawings, or Yoko colorizing them after his death?

Also

that’d be john’s choice. hehe

moral of the story: classic needs to hurry up but not too fast cause we dont want it to be broken but it still needs to hurry up. we’ll be happy with a beta that lasts till it can be released in earnest. we ain’t THAT picky. hehe. we promise not to leave it out for the dog to destroy. we love wow and particularly classic. its our collectible that can actually be shared with others, increasing its value instead of degrading it.

You know what guys. This right here is the essence of vanilla. A rantish thread turns into a discussion we can all relate to and nobody even cares anymore that we have been left in the dark as we always are by blizzard.

Your reasoning is full of presumptions. I’m definitely one of the dedicated, and I have no reason to think Classic would come later than summer.

I’m also one of the people that doesn’t think much marketing or testing is needed. This is not a new game, it doesn’t need to follow any of the standard game “new release procedures”. I think Far less testing is required because there’s literally nothing to balance. No gameplay needs to be adjusted or modified based off testing. The only testing that would even help is for technical stress test-like testing. This isn’t a new game, it’s a re-creation.

As for marketing, I know this opinion of mine is even more rare. You need to be careful advertising a game that is using ancient graphics, a game that is being made to satisfy the customers who are not satisfied with your primary product, retail. I believe they only want Classic to be successful enough to get a sub from people who quit retail. To get money out of the people who would otherwise go to private servers. The more successful Classic becomes, the more it makes Retail look like a mistake, so they need to be careful (not go overboard on marketing).

As for blue posts, I don’t understand why anyone relates blue posts with “being heard.” Reading forums does not require posting… the more time they spend posting, the less time they have for reading. Especially after recent layoffs, there’s probably way more content than they can handle. Isn’t begging for posts literally keeping them from doing their job?

It’s always darkest before the dawn.

I’m not sure how true that is though.

They should know by now if there will be beta testing.

That’s because acknowledging is an integral part of listening.

They confirmed that things are still on track just like… less than 3 weeks ago… You guys really got all emo this quickly after that update and regressed back into the “Its not coming this summer” again???

I can see why they don’t bother to tell us anything. 2 weeks later we will be right back where we were.

Doesn’t mean they have to announce if they aren’t ready to.

It was in response to a comment that said maybe they don’t know yet.

Ion knows the vanilla experience better than 99% of the entire potential player base. We’re just going to need to trust him to do the right thing - given the leeway his upper ups have given him.
