World of Warcraft 2

Why? We would just get another MMO with several expansions. Idk if people would be up for radical changes like gettinf rid of old classes and replacing them with new ones or anything like that. Like, if Azeroth gets destroyed and we have to live on another planet, MAYBE, but still, having a sequel to an MMO doesn’t make much sense, at least not for wow

I agree but theres a lot of people who play on toasters so I’m very certain WoW would lose a lot of pwople that were too cheap to upgrade their computers.

Part 2 fails alot for MMOrpg imho is a bad idea.

There is no reason to sequel the game. If you can’t enjoy a game unless it’s new, MMOs are not the genre for you. Perhaps you should go play Madden games. They drop two a year with no actual changes in content or features but you can still pay full price for a “brand new” game!

So a new version that would require big upgrades to everyone’s computers? WoW currently doesn’t require fancy computers and classic could be run on a flip phone. No thanks.

You act like brand new MMOs take beast gaming machines to run.

They don’t.

If WoW got a sequel, it would likely run about how BfA does. They’re not going to suddenly ditch the art style and up hardware recommendations by 2-3x. It would just be a good chance to normalize the graphical quality across the board, as opposed to what we have now which is zones and models and gear ranging from 2007ish to 2020.

A sequel to WoW would only work if it were a direct continuation of the game, carrying forward our characters and everything we’ve earned.

Which would ensure it never gets made, because it would take forever to sit there and bring every single armor set, pet, mount, toy, etc up to the new standard to be able to transfer it forward. (But it’s not going to get made regardless, so fair enough I guess)

The better move would be to create a better more modern engine and then port everything over but that would be a massive undertaking and not likely to happen. They have taken the route of introducing new zones and graphical upgrades with each expansion, so that would be the easier way to do it. That way they could have newer expansions zones that have the upgraded graphics engine. Unfortunately, they won’t be able to do much with the combat style.

Only if I get to bring my mounts transmogs and achievements

I disagree here, just because wow numbers are down dosent mean the entire genre is dying. If anything the genre is better than it has ever been. There are multiple sucsessful MMO’s on the market currently, where back in the day there was wow, and a bunch of copycats or dying games.

Start a new iteration of WoW?

I’d rather spend more time in Classic!

I also don’t think the market is ready for a high-graphic shiney new MMO in the new normal of a depressed economy.

The issue upstart MMOs face is that players have come to expect a LOT of content - or else the game feels empty and “dead” by their standards. The existing MMOs that have powered through for all these years didn’t have that issue since they came out a long time ago - 16 years ago, in WoW’s case.

Nowadays… imagine a new developer trying to create the mountain of content players expect from an MMO, only to risk having it flop because it wasn’t different enough from its competitors. They can add unique stuff - but as Blizzard has shown us every recent expansion, unique isn’t always good.

If its made in a few years Using UnrealEngine5 I would be down to it

I would be up for it as long they make major improvements from their ages old engine used for WoW. I’m sure it’ll run much better then but I also expect them to update everything from landscape to everything older than WoD content so nothing is so pixelated. Though I would expect it more of a update than calling it WoW 2.0

To be imaginative u would have to call it ‘‘Warcraft The World’’

This decision was already made when it was decided to abandon Project Titan. Basically Blizzard decided that it made more sense to continue to develop WoW, rather than do another MMO, because WoW benefits from its own network effect (players with long time characters, achievements, invested time, friendships) which is unique in the MMO landscape and not replicable, probably even by another game made by Blizzard, because large elements of what made WoW what it became were due to circumstances and timing, and are largely therefore not replicable by Blizzard.

The fact that WoW has remained the largest subscription MMO by a significant margin even though it is now also one of the oldest underscores the wisdom of Blizzard’s strategy in focusing on developing WoW rather than creating a sequel.

I agree. New engine, graphics, game mechanics. The whole 9 yards.

Maybe if it was World of Starcraft…otherwise, no thanks.

Each new expansion is kind of a sequel, they have updated the engine and graphics more than once. So it’s not really needed on that level.

Everquest tried this, do you remember how that turned out?

No.

They should END with Shadwlands for retail and never release any new content
Then have Classic go into TBC and then WOTLK and then a NEW version of WOD where we kept our glyphs and talent trees INCREASED instead of decrease. No mythics, NO RBGS, keep 5v5s.
