World Of Diablo

Isn’t diablo 4 basically a mmo now?

Here’s an old discussion about the topic.
terminology - What is the name of the view in games like Diablo 3, Starcraft, and Warcraft? - Arqade (stackexchange.com)

Diablo 4 is right there and actually has improved.

It’s an MMO like Lost Ark is an MMO but the OP wants a game like WOW or FF XIV.

These both happen while you are playing and with the same models.

Isometric is a pretty specific thing.

Wikipedia is actually not a bad source of this, and covers both how it’s been colloquially used and what the intent of the term was.

Blizz is moving in this direction. It will be their non-trinity action MMO based on 2/4/8 player content. The first raid in D4 may not be the greatest but it is a step in the right direction.

OMG bro the gameplay…like when you’re in a Dungeon or the open world fighting mobs. Al of that has a fixed camera angle.

I get you just want to argue but try and be Kirk instead of Spock for a moment.

I said pseudo-isometric, and you jumped down my throat.

Genuinely shut up.

Isometric has x, y, and z on its images… it’s 3D. If it has only x and y, it’s 2D.

Why name a 3D game Isometric? Isometric is not a common gaming word. Just call it 3D.

Of course it is hence the discussion in the link I posted.

…or look up ARPG on Wikipedia where there’s a section labeled 'Isometric/top-down dungeon crawler"

No thanks, they got D4 for that.

I’ll take Warcraft Soulslike tho!

When talking about older games a lot of them didn’t have a z axis but still needed to show 3d objects which is where the isometric thing comes in.

This is proper old school isometric, which is also entirely 2d. All the buildings in this image are 2d sprites, but it looks 3d because of the isometric style. This was common in the 90s because 2d sprites are significantly easier to render than full 3d models.

As computers got better we could render fully 3d worlds, but the term “isometric” just sort of stuck around to refer to this specific camera angle that is just a bit off center from being a top down view.

It’s also very commonly used if you hang out in internet circles that talk about RPGs, cause most cRPGs are using an isometric view.

For your information:
Isometric games are video games that use an isometric perspective, giving the illusion of 3D on a 2D display. This technique allows for detailed environments and a unique visual style. Popular in strategy and RPG genres, isometric games like Diablo and SimCity offer players a distinctive angled view, enhancing both the aesthetic and gameplay experience. This perspective often involves viewing the game world at an angle where three sides of an object are visible, providing depth without requiring full 3D rendering.

The end result is that you play your character from an angled view at a birds eye distance. If you zoom in it looks like you are looking at your character as if your looking down at you feet all time. You can’t see the area around your character unless you zoom out.

In Wow and other such mmorpgs you see the world from right behind your character in third person perspective. You can zoom the camera in to first person perspective as well as zoom the camera out in Birds eye distance as well as fully rotatable camera and changing the angle of view any way you want.

Just think of Warcraft 3 and World of Warcraft. Really big deferences.

I already posted a wikipedia article, and literally directly above your post is a significantly better breakdown than your own of the term.

Miss me with that.

It would be better if you did not have such an antagonistic approach to dealing with other forum members.

Ditto.

Isn’t Diablo 4 basically just an MMORPG anyway.

Yup, old games… 3D looks using 2D engine. Caesar 3 is the game I played like this.

I would love a mmorpg version of the world of Diablo!

The problem is that it would be an MMO.

If they made it an MMO-like game that was really just a multiplayer action RPG that’d be cool.

But we don’t need raiding, or lockouts, or fishing minigames, or any of that kind of stuff that every MMO insists on putting in their game.
