Frost DK is currently behind, and the numbers are pretty clear.
Looking across multiple top parses, most specs are landing around 50–53 million total damage, while Frost DK is sitting at about 43.98 million. That puts Frost DK roughly 20–21% behind the top performers.
If the goal is to be competitive in the upper-middle or top range, Frost DK should realistically be around 49–50 million total damage. To get there from 43.98m, that’s about a 13–14% overall increase needed.
The issue isn’t just total damage though, it’s how that damage is distributed.
A large portion of Frost DK’s damage is coming from cooldown-based sources like Reaper’s Mark, Exterminate, Breath of Sindragosa, and Frostwyrm’s Fury. Meanwhile, the core rotational abilities are contributing much less by comparison.
From the breakdown:
-
Obliterate (combined) is about 14–15%
-
Frost Strike is about 3%
-
Howling Blast is about 5–6%
-
Remorseless Winter is about 4–5%
-
Glacial Advance is about 4%
-
Frost Fever is about 3%
So the core rotation is only making up around 35–40% of total damage.
If you try to close a ~20% gap purely through those core abilities, they would need something like a 35–50% increase to make up the difference on their own.
At a high level, Frost DK needs about a 13–14% total damage increase to be competitive, but the deficit is clearly concentrated in its core rotational abilities rather than just overall throughput.
Right now it’s not just slightly behind, it’s consistently underperforming by a noticeable margin based on the numbers.
