There was so much of this when it came to the Heartsbane Coven.
When I get around to writing up the post detailing the various differences and intricacies of witchcraft per ingame culture, I assure you I am going to include a massive segment on them.
What i found actually cool with the coven is the quests like the one when one of the witches used her magic to make the forest attack the lumberjack so they would stop cutting down the trees and let nature be.
I think it was interesting because if you care about nature you would actually think she is right.
If that was me, living in a peaceful life in forest and bunch of people came to cut down the trees, if I had the ability to make the trees and plant life come alive to attack and scare them off, I would’ve done the same thing in her position
It was a really cool questline ![]()
So I have the Heartsbane Coven, Harpies, Gnolls, Quillboar, Trolls, Naga (my personal favorite), Gilnean Harvest Witches, Vrykul, Grimtotem, and even Satyr.
Since there are genuine samples of witchcraft Just about everywhere in this game where do you guys want me to start when it comes to the synopsis and summaries of these cultures?
Harpies are my favorite witches, i think the idea of them being very very dirty and just want their place to be dirty interesting.
But thats sjut me! I want playable harpies!
I heavily support a Voodoo themed class. It could have cauldrons, Voodoo Dolls, Zombies, Poison Frogs, Shrunken heads, Spiders, Snakes, Bats, Spirits, Blood Magic and spells themed around different Loa.
I am not against it as a spec, but I have been dying for a class based around the heartsbane.
Wicker temporary pets, cauldrons, drust spells, and a manpig hex/combat ress like old DK ghoul would be sick. A class with large telegraphic AoEs that apply initial debuffs that countdown into an empowered curse with dispel penalties. A self sacrificing hag form. Hell, Some of the diablo 4 season of witchcraft abilities would be amazing for such a class.
Could have wicker stuff for Alliance and Voodoo Witch Doctor for Horde. I would play a heartsbane coven style Witch. I just don’t see it making much sense for the Horde. I see Horde as more Voodoo and Alliance as the ones likely to get into the heartsbane coven magic. The Heartsbane Coven is not considered active in the lore though.
Completely eradicated actually. It’s something i have to really get around to writing up for this thread. But between work and gaming i’m just not gonna find the time for it.
It would definitely be interesting if there was a faction difference between the classes like the old days of shamanism but blizzard seems dead set on eradicating that.
Edit: And I personally see the grimtotem as a splendid avenue of introducing witchcraft to the faction.
Such a shame. I liked the stuff when the Paladin was Alliance and Shaman was Horde.
I heavily support Witchcraft being added. I just was not sure how they would go about it with the Wicker stuff as that is pretty exclusive to the Heartsbane Coven. I like the Cauldron idea though. I actually use it in my class concept that I made a while ago for Witch Doctors. It has Cauldrons, Voodoo dolls ect…
Eh. All they’d really have to do is say “well, it’s not exclusive now, so nyah!!”
It’s not like there hasn’t been precedent for racial-specific, flavorful spells and abilities being given wider diversity just because. Ask any old school priest players.
I’m salty if it wasn’t obvious.
Just like they do with racials now and blizzards constant chatter of removing them, you can blame the Dwarves on that one.
One of the NPCs that visits the Trade Post in Stormwind says that witches are still a problem in Drustvar and thats why she’s buying crates of stuff to combat them
Completely contradicted by Exploring Azeroth: Islands, which is newer than those lines.
Not really. The coven can still be wiped out but witches in dark corners of Drustvar can still be an issue/problem
Two things can be true at the same time.
not really. primitive mysticism seems covered by druid and shaman. evil caster type is covered by warlock and SP
I miss the Priest racial spells. That should have been expanded on.
There is no class that focuses on Tribal mysticism that is on the darker side.
I think the solution is to make heritage glyphs. Racial specific flavors to spells that change nothing mechanically but add some RPG flair.
Like for examples Belf Destro Locks could summon a Phoenix instead of an Infernal.
