How a class with so little flexibility in its design that it only fits 2 races and can’t even be designed to have a 3rd spec was greenlit in a modern MMO is still beyond me.

Correct, but there is a Human who survived it as well.

It was moreso about the number of people who tried it; Illidan’s army consisted of mostly Elves, with very few other races (Other than Broken).
It wouldn’t be absurd to assume the Demon Hunters have now learned a better way to do it, with everything we’ve learned from the Legion prior to/after defeating them.
