I completely agree, and have no idea why they do this, but they do with the little deer…it’s only a guess. I don’t see why it would matter, but then again they limit fun all the time for silly things that don’t seem to really effect or harm anyone.

Aw, I like the Raptor, it has interesting abilities. It should be fun in pet battles.
It’s bugged, that’s all. Won’t take battle stones, comes up as Unnamed, etc. I don’t dislike the pet. Just the bugs. 
Oh yeah, I remember the “Unknown” name. I was doing the old fashioned way leveling with the bonus weekly.
