Windows 11 will give keys to kingdom to your pc to Blizzard

So we go full circle.

You’ve already given them access, you are apparently just too dim to realize it.

Really? When did I do that? Odd since I don’t have any of their software installed.

FYI I’ve quit playing MMOs that I had previously played for years after they started requiring Admin privileges to run.

What OS did you use? UAC was implemented in Windows 2008 and Vista.

Yes, in this is nice in regards to combat cheating, but as the OP pointed out, this could be used by companies for some ridiculous DRM shenanigans. Imagine a company not just letting you install a program you’ve purchased on your machines using the digital key/license that comes with your program, but instead requiring you to purchase separate licenses for each machine.

Of course, of course

Well, that’s where capitalism comes into play.

Not to mention this crap can be extremely liberal with what it determines to be “cheating/automation software”. I’ve read many reports of players getting banned from games for having Logitech Gaming Software installed.

That would go against their own self interest.

Auto clicking software, is well, kind of cheating is it not?

Have you ever installed anything on your computer that pops up the UAC? Once you do that, the software CAN get full, unfettered system level access to everything on the computer. Most legit software doesn’t, but that isn’t to say it can’t. There isn’t anything in the UAC prompt that explains what the software does to your system, or what permissions it uses moving forward.

It’s pretty hard to find software that doesn’t require full administrative access to install on Windows…

I know you like playing devil’s advocate and taking every contrarian position on these forums, but please don’t even try to suggest the larger companies, like Adobe and other extremely popular, almost industry standard and required, wouldn’t abuse this and get away with it.

Yes I know, which is why I’ve very particular about what I install on my PC.

That’s why we have laws. And why capitalism is the best system. People can vote with their wallets. It’s the truth.

I’m not sure I’d trust Blizzard knowing how often they play both sides of the fence and the recent lawsuits too give cause for concern.

You shouldn’t trust anything that involves a computer or phone. But most also would like to interact with society.

Yeah, as if our government actually enforced antitrust laws

I think the recent lawsuits, as tragic the reason is for them, are a good thing for us in the long run.

If it doesn’t floor the company as a whole.

Do you trust Google? They have plenty of privacy lawsuits. Same with Comcast and pretty much every large ISP.

Sometimes, it is just a necessary sacrifice for the privilege. Until you are willing to go completely off-grid (including shopping for groceries, or having a job, or visiting any healthcare facility, or… pretty much anything that involves any commercial entity), you will have to give up much of your “privacy”.

No but they’re not screwing me over on WoW. Blizzard is.

So which do you think I’m going to care about more?

We keep cash here. We have children in our neighborhood who stop by and ask if we have any chores that need doing. Also like to tip the people who bring our groceries to our car. BTW love pick up grocery shopping!
