So they aren’t “night trolls”, they are Harronir (had to go search because I couldnt find a reference to night trolls".
They look nice. According to wowhead: “with aesthetic elements reminiscent of Trolls, Elves, and Venthyr.”. So not just Trolls. So far they haven’t been announced as a playable race but I guess its a possible future option.
No it would quite literally be a retcon by the definition. But we don’t just have in world statements from the trolls, titans, Khadgar, Cenarius or Brann that the elves come from trolls, but we have devs as well. So not just Watsonian perspectives but a Doylist one. This leaves really no room for change without a retcon, now you can argue that the story would be better or you’d prefer a retcon, but it would be a retcon.
Generally, most guys think its ‘gay’ to play as a different gender as their own. Just my observations on here. But if not, then I’m sorry for stereotyping you.
The devs have already stated and written into the game that the Titans are an unreliable narrator. Not the same as a retcon. If the information came in-lore from the Titans alone, it could be fair game to change-- especially in the trilogy of expansions that are going to be focused on how the Titans have been manipulating Azeroth.
You jumped to a literary term, all I’m saying is that with the set-up the devs already established during Dragonflight, the Titans are playing the role of an unreliable narrator, another literary term. So any information that Blizz has written in-WoW/in-lore as exclusively coming from them, and them alone, can be part of that unreliable narrative.
It’ll be a new race if and only if they announce it as a new race. This isn’t the 1st time they’ve given new npc races this treatment so hold up before putting the cart before the horse.
at this point I suspect Allied races are kind of a side-show at Blizzard. They are there, they do exist, but they’re an afterthought. Like if someone is bored and has the time they might add a few weird hair colors for them or something but that’s about it.
