Not really sure where else to post this as all of the more relevant categories require a sub.
The new transmog system killed the game for me. Would a hybrid option ever be possible?
I’m a mostly casual player (chasing AoTC but rarely landing it, mostly normal raids and M+ up to 10 if I can). Transmog is a huge part of why I play, I have 50-60 characters and I’m constantly changing their looks.
This update was the reason I cancelled my sub, and I haven’t come back since.
I know the common argument is that the new system saves gold in the long run, since you set a transmog once and don’t have to re-mog every time you get new gear. That’s true for players who settle on one look, but that’s not how I play. I love changing my transmog every 10 levels or so as a character levels up, and I switch looks constantly on my mains too.
For someone like me, the new system doesn’t save gold, it costs a fortune. We’re talking tens of thousands of gold or more per week in re-mogging costs, and I rarely have more than 100k total across my entire account. It’s simply not sustainable.
I understand why the change was made, it pushes people toward buying tokens. Why not let both systems coexist? Keep the current low-cost model for players who set a look and stick with it, but bring back the old system (or something like it) as an option for those of us who treat transmog as something we tinker with constantly.
A hybrid approach would let Blizzard keep the token incentive for the average player while not alienating the subset of us who transmog obsessively. Right now it feels like that playstyle just isn’t supported anymore.
