Will we be stuck with Malefic Rapture yet again?

So nervous with the prepatch coming out and Malefic Rapture is still the main spender on the talent tree.

Malefic Rapture just isn’t fun to use, and it sucks that in order to get the proper drain or dotting playstyle that affliction used to have, we would need to reroll to shadow priest. Kind of sad that drain soul/malefic grasp couldn’t return as our filler while spriest still utilizes mind flay. Everytime I see a shadow priest I get so jealous as affliction.

At least a talent that turns malefic rapture into malefic grasp could change everything in terms of playstyle.

No, they are going to completely revamp affliction spenders 2 months before release. Also asking for a single target channel spell to replace an aoe shard spender is the exact reason why blizzard has no use for general population advice.

You debbie downers never post on your warlock. Did you not see the talent suggestion? Malefic Rapture talented in Malefic Grasp could boost single target damage rather than aoe like it used to.

Drain soul talented does more dps than any ability you have… it sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about and just want to whine about fantasy bs. Maybe actually play on the ptr or beta before you cry about single target fillers. Literally all you do is spam drain and instant cast rapture every 6 seconds and refresh dots with drain soul being your highest single target damage profile ability.

They’re already done your suggestion. It’s called Dread Touch, bottom left of the aff tree on beta.

You’re envious of mind flay?

no, they will nerf after 1 patch so they dont have to deal with it again during dragonflight, oh wait, thats what they did in shadowlands too.

I mean it’s not surprising. The devs have a long history of having an idea, implementing, finding out the players hate it, then instead of replacing it based on feedback with something better, they do what they can to prove their idea was right in the first place …

… and they’re never right.

@Ziras It still has constant malefic rapture usage.

@Healzontap-tichondrius
Malefic Rapture is still in the rotation-- instant cast doesn’t make it any more fun as it still a big factor towards dot damage.

+1 another voice saying malefic rapture needs to go.

It has no place in the affllction playstyle. With soulswapping back this is the perfect opportunity to make affliction engaging to play again.

The old soulswap should return as a way to spread dots and maintain them.

Haunted soul is back, Malefic rapture just feels like it shouldn’t exist in certain builds. It does not feel good to play.

Not liking rapture is fine. What isnt fine is asking for it to be replaced by a redundant spell like malefic grasp when we already have drain soul…

I suggested a talent for an opt out of-- if we have drain soul that’s fine. But you’re completely missing the point of what I’m saying which is disliking being forced to have malefic rapture in our rotation and have it play such an impact on our dot damage.

The argument has gone from stop making MR most of our damage to stop making MR increase our dot damage. Affliction is one of the few specs with unstacked aoe power through MR, and in DF it rewards efficient dot upkeep even more. More MR please.

The argument has always been the same, which is that the gameplay built around MR is not fun. Yes they’ve changed it so on paper the damage is coming more from dots than MR itself, but the rotation is basically identical.

The lack of reading comprehension is abysmal today.

Dread Touch is just a better version of Malefic Grasp. An advantage of being a dot spec is supposed to be mobility, so I really have no idea why everyone is so nostalgiac over a mechanic that forces you to stand in place to squeeze damage out of your dots.

Aff is a debuff management spec. Rapture is a way to cash out your shards that rewards you for properly managing dots across multiple targets.

If you find the low apm of pressing drain soul and standing there doing nothing to be fun, then I’m sorry to tell you, but you’re actually going to have to push buttons to do damage now.

Malefic Grasp literally fits the theme. MR does not. No, it does not matter about the numbers game, nor your entertaining boredom game. Literally talking thematics, which is what the very first thing every single person experiences upon deciding what spec they’re going to play is, MR does not fit a DoT spec, not at all. It only feels good in mythic+ and only towards players looking to score numbers, nothing more.

Malefic Grasp, replacing Drain Soul, forces DoTs to tick, be it for a % of their normal value or an increased % of damage, doesn’t matter, but thematically speaking this perfectly fits into Affliction spec.

The theme for Affliction: A specialist of Drains and Damage over Time. MR is neither. MG is a Drain and a Damage over Time ability, too.

You know what else fits? Rapid Contagion. You know what else fits? Dread, Creeping Death after they fixed it, DoTs, etc.

You know what people have been asking for? Removing Withering Bolt and instead replacing that talent with Malefic Grasp. Why is this? Because Withering Bolt makes your filler more powerful. Most people don’t care to buff their filler, it’s a filler for a reason. They’re not meant to do insane damage, that’s bad.

Malefic Grasp, on the other hand, buffs the damage of all other DoTs on the 1 target. That means more Corruption, Agony, Siphon Life, Unstable Affliction, Phantom Singularity, Vile Taint damage while they’re on the target. They make your filler buff the other DoTs which is why it feels good. Your DoTs are in the spotlight, not your filler.

No, the argument for a lot still has been “remove MR from the spec.” It’s not a fun button to press, it’s not a cool ability to a lot of us, it’s just something annoying.

You could be one of the few specs with AoE power through full raw DoT damage, too, without MR and then the spec feels better because it fully thematically fits together as a whole spec.

Efficient DoT upkeep is always what should be the spec’s goal and reward.

Very few asking for this, but yeah it’s not gonna go anywhere.

Yeah

It would be a far better version not worrying about MR and, instead, proccing from Corruption or Agony damage, even UA damage proccing itself would be better.

It felt better to press the button and your DoTs flare up and deal more damage during the channel. Shadow Priest literally has this very theme and talent set in it and it feels so good to play right now on DF.

I agree with this, yes a debuff/DoT spec.

I do not agree with this, as while it does do this what I disagree with is the button that you have to press to do it.

It’s about the thematics, not about low buttons to be pressing. You keep looking at this through a higher skilled lens, and that’s why you’re not understanding “theme” – you’re looking at this from a “I need to be entertained via more/higher skill play”

You understand that there’s far more casual players with less skill than you that play this game over skilled players, correct? Also, once more; fantasy is the end all be all of specs. If they do not make sense to the average player, it’s a dead spec. Not as many people play for the numbers, or higher skill levels and being entertained. There’s far fewer players playing high level things.

MG made the DoT style feel much better, regardless of whether it was or wasn’t, mathematically speaking. Fantasy/theme wise speaking, MG is by far the best thing to come to Affliction, along with Soul Swap from MoP, the mega DoT buffers and ramping execute DoT damage.

People want simplicity, and the reason DoT specs were so fun to play is because they were very simple to play. Keep up DoTs, drain, nothing else was needed.

blizzard don’t care what players want, they will enforce the playstyle they choose for the class/spec, they will just pretent they are listening to players but at the end of the day they already decide for you.

I would say this, except the recent updates for everything says otherwise. The way they did Spriests, Hunters, Warriors is already enough proof.

I think Rapture or something like it is here to stay. I think if Affliction had no tools at all that can help burn down say, a dangerous ad’s health quickly (after a few global) then they wouldn’t have a reason to really participate in a fairly common boss mechanic if they have bursty teammates, and having a spec that just has to ignore a common mechanic because they have no way of dealing with it is bad, if for no other reason than triple affliction warlock pug dungeon should not be an impossible configuration.
