Will There Be a Level Squish or No?

Hopefully not… I don’t really see an upside to it at all. From everything I’ve read it boils down to people needing something click when they’re leveling… Give them a pop up box that says “Congrats” with an OK button.

What? Where did I say anything about throwing out the reward concept for leveling?

One.of many options is to combine our current system alongside a system similar to Old Republic’s. Open up the talent tree and see three panels: left side is something similar to our current talent system, middle panel is our ability path (showing us in a clear path what we gain passively as we level, when we gain a talent and when we gain a trait point) so that we don’t have to root through a spellbook to see what we’re getting when, and right panel is something similar to utility points, but Blizz can use our Azerite traits or other types of abilities and bonuses. You can swap between earning a talent and a trait point as you level. They could also add in other rewards for hitting minor levels like XP potions, a cosmetic glyph of your choice, etc.

Get major talents at major level gains, traits and other stuff at smaller level gains. Can be expanded and would be more engaging.

Oh I agree 100% with this. But here’s the sad thing about the state of WoW; Considering the track record of the last few expacs and the absolutely monumental task it would be to do what you suggest, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say I know what the devs are more likely to do instead, sadly.

WoW is…a massive game. What you’re talking about is reworking the experience from the ground up for everything in every zone. They attempted this already with Cata. I think that’s probably the best you’re going to get

Yeah. Blizzard’s gonna squish, like it or not. The orders came from up on high, not from player demand. All they care about is whether it’ll be another no-flying debacle.

The energy that goes into debating it could be put into something that’s not being discussed by Blizzard, or coming out in any leaks, like getting JP/VP/Honor vendors back.

I interpreted this as you saying that if you implemented an entirely new and different talent concept, than the whole aspect of rewards for leveling becomes meaningless. I mean, if the players no longer care about how many levels there are, than why worry about putting in a reward mechanic for something they don’t care about since they’ll be instead engaged with the new talent system? At least that’s how I interpreted it. And don’t get me wrong, If this were the case and levels were meaningless in favour of a much more rewarding and engaging talent system (like the Star Wars one for example), then i’m all for it! :+1:

I am hoping for no squish. At the very least I would be content with no new levels.

I want to be level 200 one day. A level squish solves nothing and doesn’t make leveling more “fun” for those who hate leveling. All it does is make the numbers smaller.

I have tolerated a lot of horrible changes over the years. A level squish might just be the one change I won’t be able to swallow. If they really choose that route (instead of working out a more rewarding leveling experience), I’m probably done. I might “level” all my babies to whatever becomes max, but then I’ll leave them there and be gone.

Oh no, not at all. Absolutely not.

The rewards for leveling are what’s important and makes leveling engaging. It was meant to mean that people wouldn’t harp on this concept of the number of levels being “daunting” if they had a reward system/talent system in place that was actually engaging. Like the one idea I posted.

No that wouldn’t be received positively from the majority of the playerbase.

  1. it doesn’t improve leveling they are not lowering the time it takes to get to max level

  2. talents will prune and no new talents added but you’ll feel like you’re making progress because they give you same talents per level.

The game needs a paragon system. After 120 you start at level 1 In the new system.

Doubtful. To be fair, I’ve not done a detailed analysis of what’s been pruned, but I feel like it’s nowhere near enough to fill in all the dead levels between 1 and 120.

Those I’m not a fan of, honestly. If they can come up with a max level “leveling system,” then they can add in a similar concept to base leveling and sprinkle it in-between the talents and whatnot. I never really liked having to level again at max level. I hit max level, I don’t want to have to grind for more points in order to do well.

Now… you want to give me a renown system where I get a box of goodies for doing stuff? Sure. I’m okay with that.

Levels should have stopped at 100 max. I would like to see a level squish and for Blizzard to find a new means of pregression. Levels are the easy way out but continuing its starting to feel rediculous and tedious. Fresh alt or new player, 120 or 130 feels excessive and daunting and unpleasent.

The issue here is that they increase levels by 10 per expansion, what I am suggesting instead of increasing levels just add a new system where you begin to increase your character. Something like what the Artifact weapon talent tree felt like (obviously not with all the cons of it)

Ion has told us that new players find ‘120’ to be a big, scary number, and thus we should have a level squish.

The fact that they brought it up at all suggests that it was already in a late stage of development at that time. It is inevitable.

They will take this opportunity to further gut inconvenient world content.

It will take at least as long to level as it does now. Since each level will take longer, it will make leveling seem like it takes even longer.

We are not getting any cool stuff or abilities or talents. People who keep telling us this “will”, “can”, or even “might” happen are being less than honest.

No bells, no whistles, just the same long, boring grind with lots of new broken stuff that may or may not get fixed at some time in the future.

My thoughts on people who find 120 to be a big, scary number:

Well I think we come full circle then. In which case if Blizz do figure out a rewarding and engaging enough talent system that works hand in hand with the leveling system that somehow manages to keep the talent system from being bombarded with meaningless filler talents due to the sheer number of levels we’ll end up having, then great!

But as our lord and savior, Illidan says…Boldly said. But I remain unconvinced. 10 points if you can tell me where he was when he said that and to whom.

Ew, I really don’t like that idea.

I want to gain levels. It’s part of why I play every expansion. But when I hit max level, I want a real talent to choose from and then I don’t want any other types of leveling. I just want to play the game and earn rewards, such as gear.

Adding more things like our Azerite traits as a utility point system and other minor rewards as we level in-between our major talent gains would ensure they can still have a rewarding system regardless of amount of levels. And that paragon system can be added into it. There’s no reason to stop the levels if there’s going to be a leveling system anyway.

If I had to take a swing at it Id say we will get a lvl squish which halves the levels we are at to 60. However. I do think its possible it doesnt happen until 10.0

Taking a guess, I think a level squish will be announced.
