They tried using a toggle back in warlords and it failed epicly. Odds are you'll get old models and only old.
I can't confirm this obviously but just an educated guess.

I think that was due to the new animations and the old models not being properly rigged for them. In reverse I think it'd work just fine.
Though honestly I can't imagine anyone wanting to use the new models. They look so different than the original ones.

My guess would be those from live who want to see if classic would be something they like.
I think its pretty sad that theres people from live who would rather see new models, just so they check out classic and see if its for them.

It's the same exact aesthetic except executed on a thousand times better. Who wouldn't want to use the newer, far better models? Tauren and Dwarfs looked like complete !@# back in the day and now they actually look great.

True, but old models are a part of vanilla. The low res textures on the higher res models wouldn't look right at all.

I race changed from night elf because they are absolutely not the same models. They're wildly different, down to the facial structure itself. Same with many of the other models, like female human.
I disagree that they're better. The old models were low res, but built better.

Classic wasn't defined by its use of !@#$tier models that were only as crap as they were because that's the best that could be done at the time.
Guys there is no sense trying to talk to vaenora.

Classic wasn't also defined by technical limitations, but they're still going to be implementing some of those limitations anyway.
I don't really care if the toggle exists or not, as I don't care about the graphics upgrade toggle, but I don't want them to spend time on it if there's any issue that arises from the new models. I doubt there would be, but it shouldn't be a priority.
Keep in mind that no changes is what Blizzard aimed to do, and changing character models is a huge change.

I will grant you that Night Elfs look like crap (not that they looked good before, but at least they didn't look like they have downs), but that's one error in a sea of straight superior models. They completely knocked it out of the park with humans, dwarfs, gnomes, tauren, orcs, trolls, and goblins. As someone that played a tauren druid for half of Vanilla the model was so stiff and looked like a toy with NINJA CHOPPING ACTION hands when you casted. Now they look amazing and organic while still retaining the same overall style.

Night elves did look good before, especially the females. Their faces were beautiful and their hair had more detail, now their hair looks like it's made of play doh with dull faces.
Half the races you listed look worse now, especially gnomes, humans and tauren. Just NO.

At the time, the models were good. They've aged and they haven't aged very well. Some of the races were improved, but others were ruined.
The animations are also different to an extent. That would require more work to make sure they animate properly. That's another reason not to bother.
Just to clarify a few things, I love both new and old models. The only reason I asked this in general, is because I thought I recalled the WoW demo using the new models (not that the demo is enough to base anything off of). But, I also thought I recalled the Classic WoW panel at Blizzcon spoke of them having everything on the new engine, which in all of the screenshots they provided, looked to be everything with an updated model. I could totally be wrong though, and would love someone to correct me in any place fit. Cheers.
They don't do this in retail WoW so it's not really a discussion on Classic WoW either.

Night elfs have always been meh at best. Overhyped for sure. But this is a point I conceded seeing as even the old "meh" models were better than the current downs models.
