I dont think most people leaving are gone for good.
It’s just an inevitability that people finish everything they want to do for 9.0 and will come back when there’s more. You get that kind of behavior during content droughts. It’s totally fine and doesn’t mean WoW is dying or anything dramatic like that.
The “Big Red Button” for blizzard is always adding a new class. The community loves new classes and they always bring a spike up subscribers.
Several consecutive months of blue posts/tweets/blogs responding to feedback and elaborating on Blizzard’s thoughts.
Cross region play
Ability to transfer characters and their items/titles/achievements from classic to retail
Much greater use of Timewalking scaling to allow revisiting of old raids
Guild revamp, including the return of great control of officer ranks, guild halls, and greater rewards for guild participation (Example: Complete a M+ as a guild group, your group gets one extra item. Ditto for raids).
They’ve dug this hole for themselves by pandering to the gogogo crowd all these years. No matter how much content they release, people will fly through it as fast as possible and yell “DONE”. Seasonal players are who Blizzard decided they wanted, so that’s what they got.
The only “solution” is to churn out quantity over quality content as quickly as they possibly can before moving on to the next xpac.
More races. More classes. Pre-Cata talent trees, crafting, questing, and grouping experiences. All zones need to be relevant.
No time gating. No borrowed power or constantly having us focus on systems that are abandoned every two years. More battlegrounds. More dungeons. More puzzles.
Bring back the original developers. Separate from Activision.
Blizzard has always delivered an A+ raiding experience but that won’t keep everyone happy all of the time. I think they need to focus on the “world” in warcraft a bit more with things like player housing, guild housing, rich/meaningful/worthwhile professions, class quests, profession quests, guild quests, factions that are completely cosmetic and optional, etc.
I’d also like to see the world open up again… to feel vast, exciting and full of danger and phat loot… not simply a place that is frustrating and time consuming to navigate between an exhaustive list of chore locations.
Yeah let’s not focus on the things like raids, dungeons, and battlegrounds that propelled wow to 12 mil subs let’s instead focus on the systems that have continually cause the game to degrade further.
SMH systems will continue to be the downfall of wow because they will continue to feel like chores pump out things that are actual content that people enjoy.
There’s a reason there is always flux in subs around patches, it’s because people sub to do the new raid/dungeon and then when they are done farming those things they quit again. Want to keep people subbed and engaged push out more of said raids and dungeons
It’s a game. Not a nuclear war where there is some big emergency button…
Nothing will change that they are delayed and on the latter end of finishing up PTR to getting close to release candidate.
I just mind my own business and play what I enjoy.
This is a cycle that happens [new content, content drought, people go elsewhere, then new patch drops, and people come back]
While this is true, it’s very clear there IS a way to appease more and they’re capable of it if they need to. They proved that in Legion. They put real effort into class halls, artifacts, tier, NEW systems and content (7.1 was put out quickly too). That simply wasn’t in BFA and certainly isn’t in SL. Just rehashed systems that somehow aren’t even an improvement.
Aside from artifact power being spec and alt unfriendly, rng legiondaries and some minor gripes it was well received.
Silly orc. I didn’t mean they should stop making great raids. I meant on top of those great raids, they should also deliver a great open world experience. I think both are important.
People really want to enjoy this game. The genre isn’t dying, the game is dying. And the game is dying because the development team has been absolute trash for years. Blizz needs to fire them all and hire a completely new team to work on this game, the devs just wasted months delaying a patch so that they could release another system grind. They’re simply too stupid to do this game justice.
I don’t think they should aside from wintergrasp in wrath which is where the sub numbers were the highest they have been what other compelling open world experience was there? Daily quests for rep?
They need to focus on raids pvp and dungeons stop trying to reinvent the wheel
