People log in, join the game, take on their role and leave whenever they wish, but the game continues.
No where in that definition is “race vs the clock for gear”. In this type of game the gear is typically obtained via going on a long adventure or quest line. That why many people who don’t enjoy a race vs the clock end up in a MMORPG.
