Endgame content wasn’t as massive as BC and WotLK was so a lot of people finished pretty fast.

Its first .1.0 patch didn’t give us much. 2 revamp dungeons and the gear drops were slightly weaker than what was given in the raids. So hardcore raiders of Cata didn’t get much.

Vet players whining about casuals getting epics. Which was a sin at the time.
Overall, Cata got off on the wrong foot that got better once Firelands came. But unfortunately like always once WoW community makes up its mind about the an expansion in its first 3-6months there is no changing.
