Why start with skyriding?

I’m helping somebody new to the game and it’s a real turn-off to be locked to skyriding to start off with. Trying to direct them where to go when they are not used to the game’s controls to begin with, and they’re flying all over the place and can’t land on a dime just frustrates them to no end. Shouldn’t it start out with steady flight, then graduate into skyriding?!?

I agree, and I have said this often.

And it really makes zero sense especially in the later expansions (which is now where most people start) to make them complete SO much to “earn” steady flight.

ZERO sense.

Originally, when the devs tried to take away flight in Warlords, they did at least have the rationale that when questing through for the first time, they wanted people on the ground so they couldn’t fly over enemies. OK, that made a degree of sense. We had that in Mists.

But to give Dragonriding from Day 1 and then make people EARN flight?? That’s deeply stupid and counterproductive.

Yeah, especially stupid if it drives somebody away that would otherwise be paying for a subscription!
