They did a bad job with Sylvanas this is the real reason for the hatred.
She needs to be deleted and retconned as just part of this Chapter 1 Warcraft aka a weaksauce vision of N’zoth.
Chapter 2: Future Azeroth 10,000 years and any references to her will be like a whisper in a cave saying…you are nothing.
Look in the mirror. It is you who are nothing
Because she is a poorly written character that the writing teams has spent the last two expansions focused around. And after betraying both factions and siding, killing massive numbers upon both sides, helping to free an old god who easily could have enslaved the world and all the while working for the “bad guy” we are suddenly supposed to just accept her back like none of that ever happened.

Metzen was the lead story designer for Diablo Starcraft and Warcraft Lore.
It’s two fold.
In game reason:
She, of her own free will, committed some unforgivable acts — murdering civilians and burning down Teldrasil.
It’s… look if you don’t understand why that’s irredeemable, I won’t be able to explain it to you.
Metagame reason:
Her story is following awfully close to being a trope. There’s a real apprehension that the writing team will just wipe the corruption juice off of her and give her a pass for everything. For many reasons, this is really bad. First off, she was such a compelling character, it’s almost criminal for her story to be so pedestrian. Secondly, it means none of it mattered. There’s no vengeance for Teldrasil, the night warrior invocation becomes irrelevant.
It’s a big let down for a multi-expansion arc.

Great, you have to be careful with the Fanbase and do not judge how a character can disappoint half the world by the Retcons and the bad script that leads to a lack of script about the experience of the writers and screenwriter to female characters.
And do not talk about the USA when in reality it is only a video game that everyone world plays or a large majority.
Which would have trouble telling you an example that would morally affect her sensitivity to your country if I told you to change your mind to a certain Disney character who is banned if she were in disguise.

Too much focus on one character. After CATA it felt like everyone hated Thrall. After Cata > MoP > WoD everyone seems to hate Garrosh. And now after Legion > BFA > SLs it seems most hate Sylvanas. Some even got tired of Dadgar after WoD > Legion.

Current year sylvanas is poorly written. It’s like trying to write a leader-of-the-third-reich redemption story but instead of a lengthy reckoning where he is made to account for his choices, god just declares “You had a demon inside you you’re all better now.” You can’t have a character do horrible things that makes people not like them and then just snap your fingers and expect everyone to just forget all about it and let bygones be bygones.
When characters do wrong they need to be made to reconcile with their past actions or it wont ever come off as sincere and you’ll just alienate and frustrate your readers/viewers.
There are people who unironically like Sylvanas? I’ve disliked her and the Forsaken since my first year in WoW, when I was Horde.

I was a bit of a fan back in WC3 simply due to her being an undead elf archer who shot people who then turned into skeletons. Seemed pretty cool to young me.
Sylvanas gets a lot of hate because of a lack of understanding of her overall story. She gets constantly judged on what she did in the past 2 expansions instead of considering everything that has happened to her from the beginning and why she did the things she did. Sylvanas has made it clear that the end justifies the means to what she is trying to accomplish. The reality Sylvanas was fighting for would have been better for everyone. The problem with her story is the lack of explanation of why she did the things she did. Her story goes back to Warcraft 3. Ever since Sylvanas was turned into a banshee she has constantly been trying to find a way out of that curse. The jailer was the last piece of hope she thought she had to undo what was done to her that would also undo a lot of pain and suffering done to others too. Her undead curse put her at war with herself. Now we know that she didn’t even have her complete soul this whole time. What happens next will be very interesting. I’m hoping they don’t cave into the forum rants of hate towards her and take her story forward in context of her entire story.
If she had a mustache, she’d literally be a mustache twirling villain.
She was poorly written, that is it. All the methods and choices they have her do. Supposedly going as far back as WotLK, was plotted to happen to Shadowlands. Her motives were so weird and out of place.
