It will deterr a lot of people who played for speedrunning.
You are an optimistic one. But the history of logs are already present. And the logs without world buff category were not competitive in the slightest.

It’s just a different speed running.
It’s already going to be slower with increased HP/Mechanics, you can still speed run it’s just different.
A different type of speedrunning that people won’t participate in. Which will make it less competitive overall.
Why would world buffs make or break speed running?
TBC doesn’t even have them and people still speedrun.
Unless they keep spell batching removed and take leeway out who wants to play that garbage.
Hunters in classic are free hks in open world
tbc is raid log city my dude, you can easily play both.
I am pretty bored with TBC myself, but I am just killing time and leveling alts to explore the different classes. Personally, I won’t get excited until they decide to release Wrath Classic. That will bring back a lot of people who just do not like the way retail has messed up the lore and the leveling experience. As well as introducing some QOL things we all miss.
Don’t get me wrong, I love WOW and all the problems they are going through right now is mainly because they do not understand the gamer culture. CEO’s who do not play the game are totally clueless.
Because people like to pump and people like to go fast. There’s something fun about waiting for polarity shift to happen, to finish Thaddius and take the portal to then kill Saph in 30 seconds with the buff still. This is something people have been doing for close to a decade on private servers. Speedrunning/world buffs.
If you don’t get it, it’s fine. But it’s just not fun to some people.
Speedrunning rules change all the time, adapt or quit I guess.
And people will quit. And go to servers where that is applicable to them and do what they have been doing. Just because Blizzard decides to stubbornly dig their heels in, doesn’t make it right. There’s solutions to both parties. And one isn’t being met. It’s fine. They will go somewhere else. And that is not healthy for the game.
Which is fine IMO, you can’t please everyone.
Wbuffs existing pressured people who didn’t want anything to do with to get them.
nothing stopping speedrunners from doing runs on classic era. Classic Era is the permanent version of vanilla that will always be out. Seasonal servers will probably change up rulesets for each season.
Splintering your playerbase on a decision like this, is not healthy for the overall game.
I really don’t think this affects as many people as you think it does.
I already think it’s too early for fresh. I think the community will be a lot smaller because people are still brunt, myself included, from playing classic.
Then you will be pleasantly surprised.
There will be enough interest for a few servers. It doesn’t take that many people to make a server live.
TBF we don’t know when it will be released, but i agree if it’s within the next couple of months its a bit soon, specially with the accelerated release schedule.
Seasonal servers coming this early is a way to combat private servers from cropping back up.
Private servers never went away, there was some pretty damn popular ones all of classic. A lot of people didn’t like the way blizz handled it.
