Why play any healer other than Disc? (Dear Diary)

Sadly the only reason Shamans were so needed the first part of the season was utiliity. They made the keys much easier while people were gearing etc. It also made dps lazy…

Now that people are more optimized dps is getting things down quicker of course disc will be king. Shamans needed an HPS buff in the beginning but that was compensated by being a “jack of all trades”

It should be priest only like preists have been asking for expansions.

It used to be disc only and even then only one person got it, not both the priest and someone else.

Twins is one of the worst and dumbest talents they ever gave priest, right up there with Soul Warding, because Blizzard is thinking PI is cool when in reality it is frustrating and toxic at this point.

They should just remove the damn thing at this point and rework the class/specs with the idea that they will stand on their own and not need something like PI to justify them.

This is all accurate, but groups can only access that strength if they can answer every mechanic solved by utility abilities in the dungeon pool without the healer doing any of them. And, even then, paladin and shaman have all been slowly and steadily encroaching on that niche, with abilities like Blessing of Sacrifice gaining effects like Echoing Blessings and Sacrifice of the Just to make them nearly as powerful as Pain Suppression and resto shamans getting effects like Downpour, Ancestral Vigor, Earthen Harmony, and Spouting Spirits all compounding to mimic discipline’s strengths as well.

It’s a good thing that discipline is slowly becoming less and less of a mechanical outlier in terms of its capabilities and healing patterns but, for now, it’s also instantly not meta the moment you need the healer to perform any role other than preventing damage and pushing up health bars.

This is correct, it is also one of the biggest arguments for why the class as a whole needs to be reworked. Functionally priest is a big ball of numbers, if they are good enough and all you need it’s taken, if it isn’t it won’t be. The brief moment when the stars aligned in dragonflight and our utility was good saw it be completely gutted because when all you are is a ball numbers you can’t have anything else.

Mythic raiding became a joke after Mythic Halondrus in Sepulchre that broke the will of the racers to world first. It became even more of a joke in Dragonflight with the Echo of Neltharion fight where people were waiting and listening to an addon to call directions and locations rather than actually playing the game themselves.

This was actually the point where I realized the silliness that mythic raiding had become by me sitting there waiting for an addon to tell me to do something and what to do rather than actually playing the game. Caused me to stop using DBM and stripped my Weakauras down to only cooldown tracking.

Your statement makes me realize it was the correct choice.

Lol canceled your sub because of logs. LOL

TLDR don’t play anything but Disc… they have the best (short too) CDs in the game and the most healing for a 5 man run. They can keep everyone topped at all times by simply doing their normal rotation of smites > mind bender > mind blast and using short CD radiance or Raptures, Dome, normal shield, pain supps, it does not matter. It’s OP. My Alt Disc already tops my group better than my holy main and the gear disparity is bigger than the void lords.

This raid tier would be far harder then Sepulcher was without the amount of nerfs they’ve implemented on-top of the the stacking weekly buff. Council for example got absolutely gutted last week with nerfs and is now easier then Ovinax imho.

I think you and I have different ideas of difficulty, and that’s ok. My idea of difficulty is execution or dealing with unforeseen circumstances appropriately. I like variable timers and locations in raid fights. Difficulty for me is not simply listening to an addon on set timers with maps and lists of candidates and just going through the motions.

I disagree with this tier being harder, rather more of the skilled playerbase has diminished over time and balance is still out of sorts with talent trees and now hero trees.

Normally the first raid tier has simpler mechanics and you’re gradually eased into the more complex stuff until the last raid tier is usually the hardest. That’s how it was during SL and DF.

With this raid tier on Mythic they went straight in with designing the bosses around mechanical variety, split groups, and proper execution of mechanics instead of raw numbers because the weekly buff nullifies any dps/hps checks over time.

This is a completely different design raid philosophy and we weren’t eased into it gradually over time.

Denathrius Mythic and Fatescribe Mythic, Razageth Mythic are the peak of Mythic raiding for me. Complex mechanics that required focus, involves the entire raid doing and knowing mechanics, but absolutely can be run without requiring any addons whatsoever.

I don’t see those in DF raids following Abberus or TWW currently.

This tier feels different to me, or maybe I just had bad luck with pugs. My guild doesn’t mythic raid, so over the seasons I have pugged the first 2-3 ish bosses. I spent several hours on a Saturday a couple weeks ago in 3 different groups trying to kill the first boss. The farthest any pull got was after first feeding phase.

That was with the 7% buff and 625-630+ ilvl. Not sure if I will try again or just call it.
