I guess my one question then - why is Kill Shot part of every talent build right now (at least on Wowhead)? It seems like it could go into something more useful. Misdirection, maybe? I don’t really know, but it seems odd.

There is a Headshot build that I think is recommended for ST MM? I hate it, I’ve had fights where Deathblow doesn’t proc and if it doesn’t proc you have three dead talents in your tree.
Explosive Shot is reliable, synergizes with Arcane/Multi Shot and adds a chunk of cleave for free. It also hits really hard when you proc Precise Detonation, nearing my Aimed Shot levels.
For DR, sure, but purely because Kill Shot is replaced with Black Arrow and the hero spec revolves around BA.
Kill shot is my favorite weapon on my MM Hunter (Tiffany) but I don’t see it as being available on my BM Hunter. But then you don’t really need it, the beasts to all the work.
I still use it even if it hits my DPS by a couple % points according to sims, the dopamine hit from that crispy sound effect is worth it completely.
Misdirection is worthless for bm outside solo

Misdirection is useful for pushing heal aggro and stragglers to a tank in group.
For MM and SV yes.
For BM it’s worthless.
