They’re bringing Warhammer Fantasy back, actually. It’ll be called Warhammer: The Old World.

No information yet if it’ll be an alternate timeline where the End Times didn’t happen or just the time prior to the End Times frozen in time forever.

I think part of it is… Warhammer 40K started off being as metal and over the top as possible and leaned heavily into it. It didn’t take itself seriously and just went crazy with it. (But a lot of people took it hyper-serious.) Even now, taking itself more seriously, it has the reputation that everyone knows everything’s cranked up to 11.

Warcraft’s tried to take itself seriously while still poking fun at itself, and it causes a lot of weird scenarios. Cata’s a pretty good example.
Go to make two characters… WACKY GOBLINS WITH ENTIRE INFLATABLE TOWNS AND PYGMIES WHOO. LOL LOOK AT ALL OF THE FUNNY STUFF HERE.

Then to a serious story about a people that were walled off and had werewolves running through killing and turning the population, dealing with the beast within and then an invasion of undead where in a son sacrifices himself to save his father, starting a massive plot of vengeance.

These things exist at the same time.

Then you go to one zone and you’ve got a story about having to crap out seeds that you ate with the oh, so hilarious loud grunting of forceful turbo-BMs… And in the same zone we’re fighting each other to the death while the Horde has this plot about two sisters butting heads where you have to kill one of them.

It’s a lot of whiplash.

Agreed. Warhammer makes it work because everyone is morally grey (read, some shade of black) and thinks they are in the right. It does not work in Warcraft when one faction is dedicated to an 8 year olds idea of a Paladin and smothers other member nation’s into the role even when it doesn’t fit them.

Edge for the sake of edge is bad. The last thing we need is more villain-sues also known as “90’s anti-heroes.”

Warhammer 40k works because its so vast.

You can knock off several subsectors and the Imperium as a whole won’t bat an eyelash unless of course a warfleet of some kind emerges as a bigger threat, looking to smash up more critical stuff.

Warcraft is only one planet with two major factions occupying the larger super contents as contested ground. We experience the conflict outside of these zones but they don’t really have much of a barring on what’s really at stake in these zones.

Sure Teldrassil and Undercity was an impact on the separate factions influences on the others more powerfully held content but it wasn’t followed up. No Horde naval forces looked to surround and cut off the isles where the Dreanei crash landed. No Alliance forces made any attempt to march on Silvermoon. We just went with banging off accouple of capitals then suddenly both factions become interested in locking down the sea between the contents that are literally almost on the other side of the world from the foremention objectives.

It doesn’t make sense and its frustrating as we as the player have no autonomy, we’re just a soul-less solider whose pointed in one direction or the other by now inferior protagonists who are lucky not to trip themselves up with every step they take.

And said continents are the size of a county when it comes to narrative. Portals allow super NPC’s to seemingly be everywhere, a pack of rogues can take over an entire forest overnight, boats can transport an army to the other end of said continent in a day, and other stupid shenanigans. Its easier to count the times the writers treat said continents like a continent than the amount of times it is not.

Lets be honest. The entire concept of a Paladin was probably thought up by an 8 year old.

A lot of salt from people who enjoy cultures that can be summized with “TREES AND MOON GOOD.”

I mean some people take it to the point of nihilistic absurdity(Elesana) but there are genuine criticisms of this storyline that can’t be so readily dismissed just because we whine a lot.

I was more commenting that complaining about the paladin class as ill-conceived doesn’t fly when your culture’s greatest milestones are “TREES AND MOON GOOD.”

Its silly tbh I really dont like when people boil down anything in this game like everything could be boiled down to there base parts

I dont think that is a excise to dissmiss others peoples criticisms as lesser like some nelf players do tho Or to say someone doesnt have a opinion cause they are a human player that because nelves have it worse, that other critism arent valid.
Like as alliance players we can be upset about teld And how lorderan exploded

In all seriously they just have many hands in the kitchen which turns their relatively interesting main narrative into some abomination while the small content the small and zone questlines keep a cohesives and enganging stories that makes you question in the sanity of the workers in Blizzard.

Also they often hire people that doesn’t have a stellar curriculum despite to have the money to hire big names.

Concept of Paladins came from the Knights of Charlemagne and the concept of Paladins being Lawful Good Knights who use Priest Powers(first seen in D&D) came from the Three Hearts and Three Lions Novel where a Time Traveling Engineer became a Paladin of Charlemagne.
