Why Lock New Bagspace Behind Something Outside the Game?

Yep it’s a complaint topic, and probably already done, but so 85% of GD is complaint topics that have already been done, so whatever. I’m back from a few year long break to check out the new expansion. Oh neat, they finally increased backpack size, but whoops, they couldn’t actually do so via something that makes sense, like an in-game item or quest, instead they want you to tie your account to the authenticator.

I never bought an authenticator because I do not need one, in all the years playing I have never had an issue because I am not an idiot with my account info, and I don’t own a cell phone because I do not need one nor have the desire to own one. It would be a complete waste of money in my situation.

The core hound pup at least made sense, since pets and mounts were always luxury items, but bag space, especially the backpack, is a core gameplay element, What were they thinking when this decision was made? What is next? Not being able to enter the new raids until you follow their Twitter account? I have grown tired with all the integration junk they push, at least until this it was optional/luxury things. It’s stupid as hell, I have to look at what amounts to an advertisement every time I open my bag. Such a shame, could of put it behind actual game content, but nope, got to make things inconvenient to push all that integration.

inb4 “Do you not have phones?” memes, “get with the times grandpa” (I’m 30, and have always hated this stuff), and “dude just buy a burner phone for 5$” (should not have to spend money on this).

Because in the long run, the less “account stolen” they have to deal with, the more time they can spend on other matters. Is it foolproof? Of course not, but it helps curb the problem by providing incentives in-game for more people to do it.

never had an issue with my account and never had an issue with people taking the time (or expense) to unlock the +4 slots.

I have and still do take issue of the horrible ugly 4 padlocks forever displayed at the bottom of my backpack now permanently increasing the open bags UI screen space for a net gain of NOTHING at all in any capacity.

Just go back to the little green + in the bottom corner, remove the padlocks and throw up a big persistent feature on the bnet launcher

Not being mean or judgemental, but how do you function in the modern world without one?
Between GPS, Emergencies, Email/Internet access and all the convenience features not having a working phone would definitely impact my daily life.

Also, not having an authenticator on your account feels like a terrible idea. You can even get the mobile one with an android emulator I think. No phone needed.

I didn’t know people could exist in the modern age without a cell phone.

GPS and being reachable for emergencies is worth it. Plus u don’t gotta talk to people in lines.

can you still get the USB dongle authenticator?

Ah yes, I should or realized it was to save some $$$. Are you really content with in-game incentives for complying with something they want outside the game?

I have to wonder how the community reaction would be if backpack slots were locked behind the Blizzard Store

I have epilepsy and thus by law cannot drive, and as such I work from home, where I can do anything I need over my computer or land-line. If I am traveling with someone, they have a phone. Could they not let you use your computer as a device? I damn bank is content with it and that’s a bit more serious than a WoW account.

Unless they restarted them recently, as far as I am aware they are discontinued.

One is a download and forget it app for account security the other one costs money. False equivalency.

Great for avoiding awkward waiting room conversations too!

Three times in the last 5 years a cell phone has saved either me or my wife from being stranded in the middle of nowhere with car troubles.
One time I had a flat, and didn’t realize my donut had gone flat in the trunk.
Another time the engine just died in a vehicle my wife no longer has out in the middle of one of those wooded roads with nothing for miles around.
Third time was closer to home, but my car just wouldn’t start, turned out the battery stopped holding a charge despite being less than 2 years old. Didn’t have to go knock on doors hoping to use a landline.

That it’s four lousy bag slots that aren’t some huge deal. Because they aren’t.

Did you not read my post? It would cost money in my case. Yes the majority probably had a cell phone when it was released, so it seemed “free” to them. But even both of those points aside, is seems scummy not to lock a game feature behind something that isn’t in the game. It would be stupid to buy something I will never use, for something that should be unlockable in game.

It’s a reward for basic account security.
To be fair most people with a PC and internet access also have cell phones.

But you should be able to get an android emulator for your pc that can run the authenticator app. Keep in mind you also need SMS set up to get the slots and I’m not sure how to go about doing that without a phone, but you probably can use google voice and android emulator to get around that with some effort.

Also, I highly recommend getting a cheap pre-paid for emergencies.
Most landlines run through a VOIP type service that won’t work if you’re in an outage. A cell phone, even without active service, can call 911.

I will look in to this, thank you.

Blizzard should have a your PC itself as an option, you need it to play WoW after all, and it’s much harder to lose than a phone.

4 extra backpack slots are a luxury item.

Why do you have a password for your account? Security… this is an optional (should almost be mandatory) feature that helps secure your account. They give backpack space as n incentive to do it as it helps blizzard and the player.

I agree, OP. They shouldn’t have done this. I hope you can find a good workaround.

If you want extra bag slots, roll vulpera. It’s a racial. Sorry, Alliance.

If you read the EULA, you will see that Blizzard can now sell your personal info.

Never realized that, had to log onto my Vulpera toon to check it out. Sure is nice.
