Why isn't voice chat enabled by default?

Because that is what I want. A bunch of screaming children that is just going to make me shut it off right from the get go anyways, so why bother making it already enabled.

Look, I get it, you want people to be more coordinated. That is why you play with people you know.

This is why it isn’t on by default.

But it is… You can only opt-out of it on channels. You can not tell the system not to enable it at all. Both the Battle.net and World of Warcraft application will run chat.

My apologies. ENABLED by default.

Edit: Still wasn’t the right word. Now it is.

If voice chat was activated by default you can be darn sure ill build an addon to shut it off as soon as i log in. I have no need to talk to others in a pug while I have discord on and chatting with my guild mates who was playing MKX or league of legends or FFXIV while I attempt to do a dungeon. and guess what I have fun with my guild mates…pugs not so much. If im doing M+ I am doing it with my team i built my self and if the pug i invited wants to communicate I can give him my discord server.

Here is the thing about activating in voice chat that most people just do not like. People in wow can be very toxic. “your not pulling the mobs right” “heal me noob” “your dps is trash” “why aunt you pulling faster tank” “WTF are you doing healer so what if your out of mana you should have been ready.” “why the hell are you CC you stupid dps.” “Learn to interupt you cow dingle berry.” … and the list goes on.

I have absolutely no desire to deal with toxic pugs who are terrible but think they are Elitests.

It’s not about coordination, it’s about just having fun. And if your idea of fun is repetitive content in a massively multiplayer game with minimal interaction, treating everyone else like a screaming child, then by all means, you do that.

As I will continue to do so then. And if you want people to use voice well, you can’t lead a horse to water and you can’t make them by having it on at first.

I get my interaction just fine with my guild. What is your excuse?

Voice chat is all fine and such… but having to hear Johnny basement dweller get yelled at by his mom, or having to listen to some guy neglect his kid who is crying in the background immediately ruins the game for me.

Excuse for what? I’ve got my friends too, but I want more. I want more than just blowing up a dungeon for 4 faceless followers. I can’t type and do my rotation. Nobody can. Typing was a no-no when I was mythic raiding, because it means you’re not doing your best.

i would love it if there was other people on the other end of their mics by default in group content. If they turn it off manually then so be it. Dungeons are very much a team activity. Take Overwatch for example, game chat on by default. Copy their report system for wow.

I think it’s what’s wrong with the game these days. Like we have these new warfronts for example, but what replay value do those have other than “gotta do this otherwise you don’t get your free piece of gear.” It’s nearly impossible to lose one, and you don’t really care about any of the other players in your pug.

I think people could start having a lot more fun in WoW if they took a moment to think about how they’re playing with live people, everywhere.

um no

don’t feel like hearing all the babies cry about wiping one time

You’re better as a toon

What irritates me about the voice chat is that it’s automatically on, you have to turn it off. I shouldn’t have to turn it off, it should already be off. Same thing with the streaming option.

I dont want to join some random group for a world boss to be greeted with some kid screaming, or someones loud music.

I don’t know how many ways I can word this: If you don’t like it, you can turn it off.

Basically the argument here is “I don’t like it, so nobody should use it.” People who like it can’t use it because nobody else thinks to turn it on to listen to them.

But if you like it you can turn it on.

This.

I didn’t use voice chat when they introduced it in patch 2.2 and I’m not about to use it now with this new one in 8.0.

There should be an option to turn it off in the System settings for those that don’t want to use it. I’d love to uninstall it if I could.

To top it off, it does cause problems at times. There are occasional momentary stutters when crossing into a different shard and the voice chat connection can drop and cause a pause in the client while it reconnects.
