Why is WoW subscription based?

There’s this recent game out. I’m not sure if it’s f2p but you straight up have to pay to play a round of it if you lose. You get one freebie a day I think.

So yeah if you win you don’t have to pay but now you have to wait awhile because either people are paying for another round or waiting til tomorrow.

It’s pay to play to pay to play @_@

Need some help getting off your horse? Appears to be a bit too high.

you seem upset by what i said

Buy to play games are better than WoW at this point.

But as for why there is still a fee to play, that’s easy… $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ in their pockets.

Sub model was popular with early MMOs. In newer MMOs it’s not as common.

Basically WoW can get away with still charging a sub because

  1. It’s always been that way
  2. People have a higher connection with WoW more than a new MMO and are willing to continue to pay it

Free to play games are usually garbage.

Gee I wonder why?

This game has enough buy to win mechanics via wow tokens to purchase everything from loot to carries. Id prefer it not be pay to win via other methods also just for the sake of monetizing this game

If final fanatasy 14 had solo content and 5 mans that would be great alt to wow but they don’t

Yes I am. I love this game. Coming to the retail forums and calling it a knock-off, trash & ftp is, well, just shows some issues lurking somewhere.

Because most MMOs strive to be WoW. That is why most MMOs were resounding failures. They wanted to try and beat WoW by being WoW or to capitalize on the games popularity by offering f2p p2w games. Most of the big titles that went f2p did so because theor game crashed and burned in a spectacular way. MMOs are very expensive games to create and maintain. You either pay to play, pay to win or get crappy secondhand content. WoW is still the titan among plebians in the MMO market, comparing it to others is pretty lame at this point and has been done to death. And while WoW has faltered with BfA, Legion was a resounding success that would make any developer envious. The other companies on the market would love to have the amount of players WoW has on a bad day.

most ‘f2p’ games require way more money per month to be competitive. also, most are pay to win. i’d rather pay a monthly sub than throw money into a bottomless pit filled with predatory mtx, but that’s just me.
