Why is the WoW subreddit so toxic and angry?

WoW isn’t exactly in a great spot these days.

It’s easy to take snipes at as a dis-satisfied customer.

The people on there seem legitimately mentally ill and consumed with unhealthy levels of anger.

Reddit = cesspool. On any subject.

That’s not anything different from here.

What subreddit isn’t. You think WoW is bad? You should’ve seen cp77 during the first 6 months. You had people threatening to shoot up CDPR studio.

every wow discussion forum is awful. this is probably the least bad of them, honestly.

It has more to do with the lack of moderation on the WoW forum. On the WoW forum negative posters + trolls are able to post without much repercussions, but on reddit you’re more likely to face people calling you out, and the mods actually close topics that are trolly.

Reddit is basically a digital version of a high school lunch room. It makes the WoW forums look like a TED Talk.

It can be bad but if you wanna see far worse, go to the FFXIV subreddit. It makes the WoW one look very tame.

Redditors are always angry, sometimes I think their only emotion is anger actually.

Meanwhile over on tumblr we just make memes

That’s pretty much reddit for you. It’s not just r/wow. I mostly read. And hardly post.

It depends on the sub, of course. As I mentioned, FFXIV’s sub is far more toxic than WoW’s. I moderate a game sub with 50% more members than the WoW sub and toxicity is rare.

The people that post on r/wow are first… Redditers. Second, people that actually or may not actually play wow. There are a number power tripping mods. I made a couple original memes and they were removed for violating forums rules only to see nearly the same meme posted a day later and get a pass.

Like nearly all things on Reddit, including Reddit, it’s a dumpster fire. I have been a user there for more than 13 years and that place has just be hijacked by some of the worst people on the internet. Insane echo chamber.

That said, there are some other wow subreddits that are still decent. r/worldofpvp is still good and there are some wow economy ones that aren’t bad either.

Well yeah. If you go to r/cute usually it’s fine. But most are rage and down votes.

I simply posted what happened in a comic book story on r/marvelstudios once. And got downvoted. Because people wanted to believe something else happened based on the panels they saw online. Just to fit their headcanon.

Interacting with people on there can feel like you are the only sober one in the room.

I should have specified. It varies in many competitive game reddits. Some are fine while some, it’s as if the people who play it are incapable of being decent human beings.

Oh well, all forums have their flaws. I’ll take this here over reddit. I’ll take reddit over MMO-C.

And Twitter, I just have Facebook.

Let’s ignore that though.

Look at any other gamer subreddits? Or maybe football team subreddits?

That’s unfortunate because artists post their work there and it’s pretty good and doesn’t require reading comments.

You don’t need to participate in the community to take advantage of it as a resource

Nope, let gamers run free without restriction and that’s what you get lol. The same would happen here too but Blizzard has rules so everyone is just passive aggressive and vindictive in less obvious ways

I knew at least one Redditor was gonna see this and freak out haha. Thanks for the entertainment.
