I can’t understand how terrible this system is right now, it feels very punishing to those who try to use the Catalyst and rewards those who are just greedy.
Lately I’ve been going to a lot of pugs, to gear my characters and I’ve faced a lot of times terrible situations in raids.
Those situations are of people with weapons or other items with higher iLvL than what they have have at the moment and then rolling need on when it’s not an upgrade or even an upgrade so they can offer to “sell them”, straight-up give it to a friend or say that specific item is an “upgrade”.
As for the Catalyst, I remember using my charges on Champion/Adventurer items to get the tierset (so they are low iLvL) and when a token drops in the raid I can’t roll on it, even if it has higher iLvL and is clearly an upgrade.
Feels terrible. I missed tons of opportunities because of these things.
Does anyone know if Blizz is thinking about improving this?
Just keep trying and rolling need, they can’t stop you from rolling need which imo would be much worse for a pug environment than now. If they win it and try to sell it, just don’t buy it. People won’t try that nonsense if they know they won’t get anything out of it.
I am doing a lot of heroic and normal pugging at the moment and cop a bit of flack over rolling need on lower ilvl stuff. I roll it for the heroic / champion track and the ability to upgrade to replace fully upgraded veteran stuff. Not the ilvl it currently sits at so settle down and worry about yourself.
Pugging is fine, it’s just the loot system is poor. There’s a need and greed. Why would you need an item that’s not an upgrade? And not let someone else roll on it when you used a catalyst?
Going back to old personal loot would help a bit by getting rid of intentional greed just for xmog, to sell for some gold, or to DE. The personal loot system would need to be adjusted to skip players if there’s no eligible upgrade.
It is poor because there are 3 choices to be made. Need, greed and transmog. If you want an item because it’s a transmog and you win it then sure, no problem. Transmog is a kind of roll that comes after greed.
The problem comes when the item is not an upgrade (the user has a 486 or 489 item on that slot). Before that would only enable the button “greed” but now some people can now roll need on stuff that’s not an upgrade (in my case, someone rolled need on something they didn’t need and gave it to someone else, which is terrible for those who are just pugging).
As for the last quote, I had a helm that was a tier piece w/ ilvl 450 (I used a catalyst charge, couldn’t level it more) and when I ran normal I could not roll need on the helm when it dropped, so it totally felt terrible, when the item was a big upgrade.
Personally I don’t think personal loot would improve this.
Allowing people to roll Need/Greed/Xmog is OK, they just need to modify the rules to only allow only those who are actually getting upgrades roll need (iLvL) and if “everyone” meets that criteria then allow them to roll need.
Else it feels terrible who are trying to get upgrades in raids, as there will be people trying to sell the items or screw someone.
After all, why allow people to roll need if they are going to pass the item anyway?
yes I can, I just roll need or greed on almost everything and occasionally I’ll get another classes’ token in my bags and I can’t turn it into anything.
You can roll greed on everything, but the problem lies when someone clicks need on an item they don’t truly need (as in, they won’t use it and instead they will try to sell it or pass it someone else, which happened to me today a lot of times).
If I don’t need something I just pass it, greed it or click on xmog if I can use it. Why would I click need on something that’s clearly not an upgrade? Stopping someone from actually getting an upgrade is low, as the roll itself is not a real “need”.
