There’s a ton of story content locked behind a grind. I’ve almost completed the loremaster achievement and my highest renown is at level 17, and I’ve unlocked two quest chains since DF launched. I only care about finishing the main story at this point, so I don’t care to grind for the dumb walrus people or the centaurs.
The main sequence quest for the rest of the story is gated behind rep level 26 (27?) with the valdrakken, so I’m at least 9 levels away from advancing the plot by weeks, and doing anything different from grinding obsidian keys until my eyes melt. World quests for the VA are few and far between and offer a pittance for rep. It feels like the only metric Blizzard cares about is how many eyeballs are on screens, not people experiencing the story that I assume a lot of work and effort went into.
Guess the amount they charge for the xpac wasn’t good enough, they want you subbed for the next year in order to see things you prob would have done and seen in month 1.
My boss didnt give me the harder work until I had more experience and he trusted me more after seeing I could handle it.
Who reads chapter 12 of the book before 1-11?
it makes perfect sense that new content opens up as we develop relationships with any particular group and they trust us with more to do
Yeah, gating story and profession recipes behind reps was one of the most hated things in MoP. It is frustrating that they would make the same mistake again.
for those who CAN actually do the math here…the game is supposed to represent a version of ‘reality’ that is SUPPOSED to use the SAME KINDS of interactions between SENTIENT beings of whatever race.
jesus christ…sometimes this forum makes me literally laugh out loud. lmao
The gate keeping is stupid I agree, but without a borrowed system this is the easiest way to make rep relevant, and WQ relevant.
The problem I have is that I’m half way to recipes that I out geared 2 weeks ago. By the time I get these recipes there is going to be literally zero demand for them.
Also, while we’re talking about recipes. Sparks are so much better spent on pvp gear because you can target your gear pieces it’s not even funny. I literally only roll the dice on the vault drop and that’s it. Compared to pve where it could get replaced very quickly from a myriad of sources (raid, m+ chests, world bosses, rare spawns if they drop highly valued stat items even if it’s a slightly lower Ilvl, primal storms, etc etc.)
The progression of gear for both pve and pvp is smooth this xpac, but after a certain point doesn’t make a ton of sense to me. The crafting in particular seems like it doesn’t gel right urh these other systems very well.
L M A O.
its like you somehow MISSED going on TWO DECADES of this game using REPUTATION with groups to gain more from that group.
Sorry but that IS how it works in the real word.
Hate to break it to you but RPGs like this have been doing this same kind of thing for decades, lmao.
You work for them, you get more from them.
Not rocket science here lmao.
we’re done.
youre not wasting my day here.
blocked
Because if you can unlock everything within 1 month, Blizzard won’t get another $15 for each successive month.
It’s all about getting people to stay subbed and that’s about all there is to to time gates.
$$$$$$
Most casuals just do LFR - Blizzard heavily time gates LFR wings because the casuals are the bulk of their profits. That why they stretch LFR over like 6 weeks. That’s $30+ right there.
I don’t care about rep grinds for gear, or for transmogs, or titles etc. I can’t advance the main sequence until I reach a particular reputation score. It sucks, it isn’t fun. Using reputation to hoard the story is a bad move.
I’m trying to think of the myriad of MMOs I’ve played in the last 20 years who did this, and I’m drawing a blank.
Anyway, dude blocked me because they’re a coward and have lost the plot.
Wading into a thread just to excrete bad takes and dumb opinions, get made to look dumb, then announcing to the thread you’re blocking someone is peak forums.
We’re literally champions of the titans. We killed a titan. We saved the Pantheon. We saved every dragonflight sometimes multiple times. Why would they not trust us yet? We’re literally gods among men and they still don’t trust us?
Ghostcrawler answered your question, when asked why dungeons didn’t just give people the loot they wanted instead of being RNG. Paraphrasing from a decade-plus memory:
“1. Do dungeon
2. Get your loot.
3. Run out of content
4. Politely ask where more content is”
Hint: he was being sarcastic with the word “politely”.
That’s pretty much it. There’s far too many people who will devour the content and then pitch a fit about not having anything to do.
