Why is linear progression so hard to find?

I find this the most frustrating part of wow both classic and retail. Why is it so neigh on impossible to have linear progression?

I admit with bfa’s garbage grind game design I gave up on it for this expansion and planned to just dive into classic… then pvp came and looks to introduced aq/naxx quality gear before bwl hits…

Why? Why is this the inescapable fate of blizzsrd 2019? Why do I keep getting denied what I want?

How hard would it honestly be to release the orginal non over powered pvp gear in classic then simply buff it as phases progress? How hard would it of been to make bfa without littering it in gambling and massive grinds for power?

I just feel tired… I just want what wow used to be… is that to much to ask for?

The game isn’t designed for you, the game is designed for the largest audience possible. I’m not sure what to tell you if you don’t expect games to evolve and change over 15 years.

I haven’t really kept up with classic but I remember vanilla having high end gear in the pre BC honor system on par with raid caliber gear for that time. I remember using parts of that set while raiding, until I could replace them with better set bonus stuff. Now I heard classic isn’t using the vanilla honor system, which is a shame but honesty I can understand them not wanting people to feel like they have to play 10+ hours a day or share their account to progress beyond rank 10.

BfA had linear progression. You just had to be there day 1.

8.0 : ding 120 -> Heroic dungeons -> Mythic dungeons -> Uldir up to Mythic.
8.1: Heroic BoD -> Mythic BoD -> Heroic Crucible -> Mythic Crucible
8.2: Heroic EP -> Mythic EP

Which will bring you straight into Heroic Ny’alotha in patch 8.3

Just gotta play from day 1 if you want linear progression. Catch-up is for people who weren’t there the first day.

PvP sets were introduced to Vanilla WoW in patch 1.4 when the highest content available to raiders was MC and Onyxia. The blue sets were on par with the T0 sets while the purple sets were almost on par with raid gear. That’s the way it stayed until patch 1.11’s release of Naxxramas. At that point, all of the PvP gear was buffed to be on par with BWL/AQ40 gear. Since Classic is permanently set to 1.12, Blizz chose to use the 1.11 versions of the PvP sets. This rankles the community there to no end because 1.) the gear from MC/Ony is now easily outperformed by PvP gear stat-wise, even though the set bonuses for the T1 sets are still much better overall and 2.) having super-powerful PvP gear available during MC/Ony progression isn’t authentic to the Vanilla experience.

They absolutely are using the Vanilla PvP rank system.

Don’t you need Rank 11 and up to even get access to the Purple PvP gear ?

How does one get Rank 11 when the PvP system was just introduced ?

People literally account shared to get to rank 11, or never left their house. No one, and I mean, no one with a life outside of the game got HWL/GM without account sharing.

Rank 12 actually. But the blue set that only requires Ranks 7,8 and 10 is slightly better than MC gear and slightly worse than BWL.

I have no idea. Couple this with the fact that there have been some fairly serious wrinkles in the system’s Classic rollout and I doubt anyone is yet. But they will be.

Yeah, but OP might be a bit irrational in thinking any of this is useful, seeing how MC was cleared so easily, and BWL will hardly pose a challenge either, with most fights having very simple mechanics and are all very well known.

Sure they will, but that’ll take a huge time investment, and seeing how I doubt anyone will really have any trouble in BWL using only MC gear, doubt it’s worth the effort.

whoa what a witty comment! the game isn’t designed for him, it’s designed for the largest audience possible? But isn’t he part of that “largest audience possible”???

They can’t make everyone happy so I guess not. :woman_shrugging:

These are kinda low effort today but I’ll help. Walk from one end of your room to the other in a straight line. There, I helped you find linear progression.

This is why retail has timegates.

I thought patch 1.4 brought the vanilla honor system and the pvp based rewards, with path 1.6 being BWL?

The post you replied to said pretty clearly that PvP sets were introduced in 1.4.

I kind of hoped the 15 year old version of the game wouldn’t change as well.

Imagine thinking you could get rank 14 gear.

In fairness, it didn’t. Its the exact experience that someone who started playing in 1.12 would have had.

Well realistically anyone can but even the lower ranks of 8 and above offer better then aq gear for some classes…

I guess I just want to much.

Results in linear ratio of development time to content creation.
