Maybe because she was dealing with a strong internal conflict?
Stuff like that can easily make someone mentally unstable

To be fair. Her believing in peace was her original personality/character. That was her “nature”
While I agree the transition back seemed a little out-of-no-where though baine saving her brother-ish was a big part, but in general it’s not that unreasonable to think that she’d slowly drift back to how she used to be at least in part.
Honestly I think blizz just isn’t sure what they want to do with her. Even within a single expac she has a ton of back and forth between being edgy, jaded hate the horde with a passion jaina and tired, hopeful peace is the only real answer jaina
Holy crap, someone on the forums actually acknowledging confirmed canon as a means to establish the discussion?
Say it isn’t so.
It’s like not a single person here actually knows how messed up a person can get if their entire home town was nuked.
It might be that the 2 major factors (Garrosh and Sylvanas) are now permanently out of the Horde picture, and that the more peaceful leaders are putting together a council.
She should be focusing all possible resources on trying to research Sylvanas’ newfound powers… then track her down, and end her tyranny.
Though I’d probably be siding with Tyrande right about now…
And then she forgive everyone. And blame Sylvanas, even though they never had any interactions.
Maybe if you actually paid attention to this story we would’nt be having this convo.
New writers with an agenda rather than a consistent and realistic outlook on how genocidal Jaina Proudmoore truly is.
Because we need all the humans on the same sheet of music to show they are one for peace.
Before they throw the Night elves under the bus since we are still owed a rather large blood debt by the horde for a the tree party and other events. And I hope to Elune we collect that debt. With interest…
See if Tyrande could have a the old Jaina who’d kill horde at the drop of hat because it was a day ending in Y…that would mean instant win for us NE’s.
We can’t have that. I predict the NE getting thrown under the bus again in shadowlands. And it will be the 2 idiot humans (Jaina and Anduin) who throw us under it.
Genn…not sure where he falls here yet. My take after the end scenario is he is getting fed up too and just wants to ghost that banshee’s butt more than stay the loyal servant to Queen Anduin.
Her experience with her mother has reminded her about forgiveness and how hatred can blind one to see the right path. Also towards the end, seeing Thrall come back is a big morale booster for her as well. She and Thrall always has a very good relationship. I think she has a crush on Thrall even waay back.
I think the additional context I got from Tides of War helped show me how messed up the bombing of Theramore made her. I think book did a good job of showing her mental state deteriorate when it described how her apprentice Kinndy Sparkshine’s body disintegrate when she touched it.
My guess is the writers were/are using Jaina as a foil for Sylvanas.
Both started BfA on the war and blood side. But Jaina was given a story to show her struggles and defeats where she actually needed others to save her and free her from the drive for war and vengeance. Sylvanas had chances (at the tree and opening battle at Lordiron (sp)) to ease off the bloodshed and hate, but instead, she embraced it and escalated the bloodshed.
Have a feeling the two are going to face off in shadowlands at some point. Maybe Jaina will end up being the Varin of MoP in the conflict between Sylvanas and Taranda.
I agree with you on this.
Jaina’s arc was about healing from a traumatic experience, and learning from past mistakes, while Sylvanas is driven in the opposite direction by her traumatic experience, becoming something very similar to the evil that she originally opposed by burning Teldressil (like Arthas destroyed Silvermoon), or something even worse more recently at Icecrown.
It feels like that’s been brewing for a while, and it’s why we are seeing characters like Uther making a return and having a prominent role in Shadowlands.
I have to believe that the spirit of Arthas will make an appearance at some point, though that would logically be at a key moment sometime in the middle of the expansion.
I would guess that Lor’themar and Jaina will probably join us in the Shadowlands for that reason.
As to Tyrande, I’ve felt from the beginning of BfA that the sticking point is the Night Elves because it always seemed like the story didn’t have much of anything in mind for them other than the massacre at Teldressil being the catalyst.
They tried to do a little something with the Night Warrior questline, but that was handled very poorly, and really exacerbated the original problem.
With a little more time to plan, one can hope that Tyrande’s story in Shadowlands will feel more substantial, and will tie into everything else.
I think the devs are just transitioning out Jaina focus to a Tyrande focus for 9.0, at least for alliance it seems.
Green jesus has that effect on her.
She changed by the same very reason sylvanas is god like and tyrande wasnt able to kill nathanos. Bad writing with plot armor.
because the lore is terrible
Imagine caring this much about video games plot.
Even Warcraft 3’s lore half the time is eye rolling.
She had ‘character growth’ this expansion… -shrugs-
Specific answer? She sees that there will be on end achieved through violence. Neither side will truly wipe out the other. During the Trial of Thros she comes to terms with her hatred and makes peace with it, while still understanding that she will need to use force to protect herself and her beliefs. There is also specific mention that she is starting to take Taran Zhu’s lecture seriously, after all this time.
She also came to peace with the guilt she felt over her father. IMO Jaina has had the best character arc / growth of all the WoW cast since WC3.
