Why is havving a "shared experience" no longer important?

I thought part of the point of any MMO is having a cohesive, shared experience with every other player. Why has this been deemed expendable, and where do we go from here?

With me ,i would like to hear of others peoples stories of their adventures in Azeroth .If there was a way to express them, even new players ,I surly like to read them.
