Video game company wants people to play their game longer. News at 11
The longer you have to stay subbed to get stuff done, the happier they are. There is not a single expansion in WoW that is not an end game treadmill where gear gets upgraded or replaced every 6 months after you spend 6 months grinding for it.
thatâs a core function to how MMOs work.
WoW has regularly made it faster though.
They increased crest crafting costs by 50% and they increased the amount of upgrades needed on myth track gear from 4 to 6 without increasing the amount of crests you can get each week to perform those crafts and upgrades.
Yes not everyone goes for 639 level gear or may do content for it but for those who do the above applies. Iâm not saying give gear away for free like DF S4, but itâs hard not to compare it to the previous expansions first 3 seasons which had a quicker and more friendly gearing method.
Yeah letâs speed run the new season and everyone can quit early lol. Great idea! Do you have any more?
Considering we are moving to an 18 month expansion with 3 seasons, instead of 24 months with 4 seasons, and have just gotten a 20th Anniversary event, they probably figure we have enough to get us through to Siren Isle.
I donât know what the OP is talking about. It has never been easier to get geared than it is now.
I havent heard anything about a feb 2026 release date.
I mean.
We obviously do if these thread exists.
For some reasons I canât explain there are still people who play the game solely to gear characters as if any of that gear means anything if youâre not going to use it.
Idk about Feb specifically but Iâd expect either a .3 patch or expansion in Q1 2026. Given their stated goals and recent release history, expansion is whatâs likely.
Ion said âWe are launching player housing with the release of Midnightâ. Looking closely at the roadmap for 2025, not 2026, in Winter (December) of 2025, there is a flag showing the icon for player housing.
It is my personal speculation, based solely on their interviews, and official road map, that as a marketing ploy, we will get Midnight at the stroke of midnight on 12/31/2025 and ring in 2026 with the new expansion, and a chance to play during the holidays. Winter holidays are âslow monthsâ, so what better time to drop a new expac for FOMO with player housing and get people to be subbed in the lean months?
Please stop using âFOMOâ.
It has no meaning if we use it for everything.
They have never released an expansion like this before, ever.
Most likely, housing will be involved in a prepatch event and Midnight would be 3 months later.
Canât wait to make my cute house in Midnight.
Hopefully Azeroth will have 4G network by the time so I can set that up too when I start building.
I never use that word, that was my first use of it, and felt it accurate. Most people would not bother subbing during the holidays unless it is to go get free stuff under the tree in IF and ORG. Iâm sticking to my prediction. Only time will tell.
Its your prediction to make. It just would go contrary to how 100% of all expansions have ever been released.
Itâs not season 4 yet.
Every other expansion was 3-4 seasons and 24 months of content. This expac looks to be 18 months with 3 seasons. After all, Metzen did say they were shaking it up and things would be coming at âan expedited cadenceâ. (Paraphrasing)
Yes. Metzen said he wanted it done by 2030. Which is like 45 days less per expansion.
Releasing at midnight doesnt make logistical sense either.
Sub based game. The longer you play the more they make. Quite simple actually.
Do you have a source for this?
âBy 2030â which means it has to end in 2029, after TWW started in 2024. Thus giving us 5 years instead of 6. So that 45 days is actually 120. Then again, 2030 is arbitrary. It could mean it ending in early 2029 which is still by 2030. If it ends in April 2029 instead of December, we shave another 8 months off that.
But like I said, weâll know more in 2025. Til then, Iâll stick to my gut. It has not steered me wrong in 50 years on this marble.
6:30 starts the discussion about delivering it faster than we are used to.
In another one on one sit down, he talks about already having 13.1 and 13.2 mapped before 11.05 even launched. Either way, it should be a blast. But if I know Blizz, subs in lean months and the title tie in with a launch date just makes sense in my head. But I have no interest in convincing anyone or changing their minds. This is totally me. I wonât budge from it. Just my gut instinct.
