Why is fear ooming still a thing?

I want to feel bad for you, but my cold callous Ret heart has lost all sympathy for mages

Better question.

Who were the developers that were in charge of warlock class design? Gotta congratulate them on ruining a class to this extent. Its sickening to even log on to a warlock (mainly affliction) and participate in any sort of PvP currently.

Don’t worry, come 8.1 I feel like lock/Spriest and lock/DK will return as overlord’s once again.

Only because Aff will play with the new and improved shadow priests. Aff hasn’t really gained anything and lost its win condition with drain life. Aff playing with spriest to high ratings will be like destro being carried by fire mage

Yeah but demon armor should help with aff/destros current issue of melee turning them inside out. Couple that with the fact that both spec’s damage have very high sustain and burst potential and things should smooth out nicely. The meta is definately gonna shift towards dampener comps.

I could be wrong, but I definately think we will see some interest in WLS, RLS, Shadowcleave again.

Honestly don’t even care if locks are god mode next patch or have multiple tier 1 comps. I just want to have an interesting and fluid rotation for the class to be fun to play. I’ve never been the player that only seeks class superiority, but rather I tend to look for a class that I find satisfying to play with abundant options/opportunities available within its toolkit.

First step is definitely by giving back life tap. The fear dependency in arenas for locks is quite high. In addition to fear costing a significant percentage of mana, it just makes life tap an absolute necessity for the class. Its still puzzling to me why this change was even considered in the first place if warlocks were going to be squishy. Shouldn’t squishier targets that lack mobility be given a sufficient amount of utility for peels and crowd control?

Fear just keeps getting dumpstered on and feels exponentially worse than sheep imo. Sure, you can fear multiple targets (including in form druids), but:

  • 6 sec full duration vs 8
  • more fear dispel effects in the game than sheep
  • DR’s with clone
  • No option to clear dots
  • Costs absurd amount of mana
  • Kick penalty higher on fear (throw away your spellbook if you’re playing af and get kicked)

Sure, sheep heals the target but, aside from peeling, mages are not sheeping the kill target. And even when they do, their whole class is designed around 100-0 someone in 6 seconds so I don’t think it’s the biggest drawback.

i mean i really hated life tap if i can be honest and when they said it was removed i was like hell yeah but i didn’t realize that now we were just going to oom lol

Let’s not forget when fear plays the game better than your opponents, and runs them LoS of you during your cooldowns.

Fear issues like mana cost, pathing, breaking early on dmg, locking affliction down completely when kicked are all things that wouldn’t sting nearly as bad if we also had instant shadowfury or baseline coil or curse of exhaustion or shadowflame snare or blood fear or howl etc.

Our most reliable cc might as well have hellfire baked into it

Fear:

  • Ooms caster

  • Lasts 6 sec

  • Locks out most important school

  • Has several counters from innate class abilities, talents, and racials.

  • Makes target run out of los as you waddle on a class with no mobility

  • Breaks on damage but doesn’t remove dots

Poly:

  • Never ooms caster
  • Lasts 8 seconds
  • School lockout is negligible for 2/3 specs
  • Has very few counters aside from healer dispel
  • Auto removes dots for thoughtless use on any target at any time

WTB old 8 second fear that took A LOT more damage before it broke which made it unique and justified the multiple counters to it.

I actually just re looked at the Azerite changes since inevitable demise is nerfed in 8.1 and I thought that the new traits we were getting was in addition to the ones we already had but they’re removing bad traits like accelerant with better ones, problem is we still have kinda bad traits & now I’m guessing as Aff vs melee I’m gonna be running demon armor/gateway mastery/curse of weakness all the time to not get my head punched off

I wish they could have at least came up with a few more decent options for traits. If they removed stacking we could have a little bit of everything and feel like legion artifacts

New Aff trait says refreshing agony corruption and siphon life in the last few seconds does x amount of dmg and has a chance to give a shard, this is cool since it’s more dmg on playing Aff right and paying attention to dots about to fall off and can make it so all 3 spells can give shards instead of just 1 but it’s weird that siphon life hasn’t just become baseline to make this a better pick.

Wings is not dispellable anymore. Divine Shield is not dispellable- its MASS DISPELLABLE. They cannot spam dispell wings or divine shield your main offensive and defensive.

What can be spam dispelled is a bonus defensive, BOP.

Also your parry cannot be dispelled nor your big absorb shield that explodes.

Freedom is a mobility tool which can be dispelled it is niether an offensive nor defensive CD.

The Meta is dampening comps now  Dh/Boomkin or Boomkin/Spriest these comps can’t be killed before 12 mins now.

Thank you sweet baby Jesus. By how much hopefully it does no damage and they should remove that gimmick.

everyone knew about this already including everyone who was going back and forth with you for the last month whenever you mentioned nerfing/removing it. No warlock wants inevitable demise to be a thing its just that its the only reason any affliction warlock wins games and all threads you get involved in your posts are worded so that it seems like you want to literally steamroll every single caster you ever encounter

The problem is why wait till 8.1 to fix broken things ruining PvP?? It should of been hotfixed months ago. So keep talking about it till it happens.

Casters have the most gimmicks and stuff that is broken. Fire Mage, Boomkin, Lock lol. It isn’t my fault the Devs made casters broken. Just call it as I see it.

All irrelevant now to beat something broken you must play something equally as broken.

we all know once blizz says its coming they arent going to push up the date to meet our convenience. If they were gonna rush to fix that they’d also rush to actually fix the class but blizz is a small indie company

I get mentioning fire mage and boomkin as super strong but even including drain life you cant put locks in the same sentence as those specs

Broken traits are exploits though. Do we not hotfix exploits ASAP anymore?

No lock isn’t strong but they have a broken gimmick and that is all that matters. Everything broken should of been fixed a long time ago.
