Back in the day there used to be tons of comp diversity. People played whatever they thought was fun. But now it feels like every single game is against the meta comp of the week. It’s unreal, every single game is either splay, ret war, or aug. It’s really lame.
mages make me sheep

accountwide rewards and 2400 glad
you’re permanently rewarded for being a terrible destro lock instead of an insane assa rogue right now
need to roll back account wide rewards on everything after bfa
People just want the east glad to feel better. 56 DHs above 2400 rn but like 150 warriors above 2400. 16 fDK above 2400, I have more respect for those FDK than I do ret/war players even if FDK played with an evoker
Account wide rewards and alt friendliness. It also helps the FOTM classes are particularly easy to play.
Acct wide rewards n stuff isnt the problem
Its blizzard making classes insanely busted every week when they need nothing but nerfs. Great example is with warlocks. WHY buff them by 10% for 3 weeks in a row? They already do insane amounts of damage and are way more durable than a tank
Less buffs to classes and more nerfs to put them in line. OH and also with the fact of pvp changes coming in the form of pve changes. Like unkickable eye beam… like wtf
Kicking eye beam is like dispelling dream breath… Your main 30sec ability shouldn’t be auto nullified. Imagine if fist of fury could be kicked. Just awful. Good changes for the game
There’s a ton of comp diversity and game is balanced more or less imo. Just easier to alt now because gear friendliness which is also good
There’s a lot less people playing
casuals are the people that played for fun
they aren’t around much anymore
In a sense it can be by some specs.
The actual answer is ease of leveling / gearing / boosting. This didn’t happen back in TBC / WotLK / Cata to any significant degree because leveling new characters was a substantial time investment, and there weren’t catch-up mechanisms.
That is the primary reason people used to be more attached to their given character, rather than having a brigade of alts to play. (Well, and the fact that class depth frankly used to be a lot higher, so you didn’t get bored playing one thing.)
Sure, account wide rewards theoretically contributes some small amount, but 95% of people aren’t getting 2400 regardless, so that is most certainly not the driving cause.
You don’t know why because it isn’t true. Stay soft like a pretzel or get good.
Because rerolling is fast and easy.
Also classes are pretty homogenized so it’s easy to just hop on to whatever is the most overtuned without a significant learning phase.
The long explanation can be summerized into primarily a two topics. During a PVP season, tuning and class design varies wildly with weekly updates or even hotfixes. This can take an S tier spec to being C tier or vise versa on any day the devs decide. The frequency isnt as much of a concern as the power rises and falls for specs, too much of a descrepedancy in power level changes to ignore. The second issue is MMR and Rating are very hard to come by, if reaching Glad in a reasonable amount of time is the goal, you cannot lose, nearly at all. Losing one match could take 6 wins worth of progress from you, and hours of time lost becomes weeks if loses continue. Players desire to have less volitile game changes during an ongoing pvp season so they have no need to reroll, and milder punishments to their progress if a loss does happen.
The eye beam change was mess up.
I wish it could be.
Because why do what’s difficult when much of human nature is following the path of least resistance. Like playing ret is a good example of that.
you just named 3 more comps then what SL had… RMP ( cough)
Well tbh the meta shapes the range you are in. When certain comps are R1 viable that is all you see in that range with few outliers and its the same in every range all the way down the ladder. So its not even necessarily that the people are meta sheep but that you are seeing the results of the meta in your cr/mmr range. I do think this also snowballs because people eventually get frustrated and try to switch to what they are always losing to.
Came back a couple days ago to get my 1.8k on this guy and man I think I’ve seen a total of 3 other rogues in 3 rounds of SS, a half dozen games of regular 3v3, and a couple BGs.
But also I get it, especially with Assa.
It’s definitely account wide rewards and I’ll be the first to admit it. Remi said it well. Why be an insane assa rogue when you can be a mediocre destro and get free CR, and then flex the rewards from the busted class on your actual main.
People have been doing it since they added it in SL.
If they were to take the mount from alts a lot of people would not be class hopping
