That is way too much wisdom for the forums. Figures you’re a shaman.
You both proved my point, and missed the conversation.
My “paragraphs” were point by point responses to his own comments. Not to mention, the verbiage in them was more than enough for any reasonable person to A) understand that they are distinct points and B) know that they were not in any way directed at his avatar.
Maybe, maybe not. This type of game is currently underserved and battle royales are a saturated market with companies and games falling out frequently due to poor performance.
To your second point. Are more people playing WoW? I’ve seen many people theorize (as that’s all we can do) that FFXIV and even ESO have caught up and perhaps even passed WoW.
However, you can’t in good faith try to talk about classic being a niche museum piece and then attempt to compare it to FFXIV which is much closer to retail WoW in terms of game mechanics.
And finally, there must be something to the “untapped” market thought as most upcoming MMOs are narrowing their target audience and/or aiming for a throwback feel.
I don’t know, they don’t release their numbers these days. It’s definitely dwindling compared to what it was. I don’t think FF or ESO have caught up though, although FF does have alot of people on when I log on here and there, in every zone I go to. But I wouldn’t say they’ve surpassed WoW. People are just more end-game focused in WoW and from what it seems, story-focused in FF, as it should be tbh lol
I compared FFXIV (and the others) to retail WoW.
Comparing to retail. I apologize if that did not come across clearly.
This sounds like it has some potential, what games/studios are looking to do this? I’d love to check them out, maybe find a good’un to play down the road.
No other MMO has even 1 million active players. WoW is probably in the 3-5 million range at leaat.
Some of the names I’ve heard and have been keeping a very lazy eye on:
Pantheon, Project Gorgon, Ashes of Creation, Chronicles of Elyria, New World.
And then there’s a couple of PvP centric MMOs:
Camelot Unchained and Crowfall.
I have no clue how good or bad any of these games are, but none of them look to be catering to the people that love retail WoW or FFXIV.
You have a source for that?
I always get a kick out of people who promote FF and ESO over wow and cite those games as reasons they’re leaving. Outside of their character creation, those games are far inferior to wow. And that’s even with modern wow being in such a poor state.
Its been a while since I read it, but ESO wasnt even close and both FF games together were listed as having less than 1 million. Its possible they have increased since then but I doubt its been a lot.
This is incorrect. FFXIV is far superior to retail WoW these days.
Almost every single thing that people here cite as a reason for WoW’s demise is present in FFXIV.
Again, do you have a source for that?
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m spoiled by the luxuries we have in modern WoW. I have recently resubscribed after over four years gone. Coming back there’s even more short cuts and easy mode type features. Not to mention, there’s just a lot of features. It’s hard to keep up with all of it, at least for me it is. In regards to classic, I’m looking forward to scaling back, stripping the game down. Will I have to adjust to playing without those convenient features ? Yes. But to me it’ll add to the overall experience. I’m looking forward to experiencing Classic.
This states that FFXIV has “748,912” active characters.
I’m sure this includes many alts, so the true number of subs could be 500k or less.
What is an “active” character?
How accurate is that site?
I’m not really trying to say you’re wrong, but we simply don’t know the answer.
Statistics for July 2019
*** (Any reference to “Active” characters, refers to characters that have claimed the “Dress-up Raubahn” mount from the 4.1 story)**
So you have to gave completed the Stormblood main scenario? When did that come out? Over a year ago?
You can see Google trends comparing a bunch of the big MMORPGs… WoW still has the biggest interest by far.
Quick and convenient IS better in most respects… as long as you’re not undermining the gameplay and community with your quality of life features.
None of those actually “prove” anything.
