Why is Blizzard obsessed with Druids having Star powers?

I enjoy Starsurge and the like, but it feels weird to me that Druids are just basically Star Mages now. Remember back when Druids has lightning, water and bug themed spells? Those are all major aspects of nature. Maybe bring those back to the nature class?

I don’t remember ever having lightning. I remember Hurricane, which was a storm, but not lightning by itself.

Moonkin are Elune’s warriors. That’s basically why they went that route.

I still miss Hurricane, though. And when Wrath was actually a green Nature spell.

But it seems they wanted to separate primitive Nature users from Balance Druid. No idea why.

Shamans have lightning.

We had lightning since day 1 of Classic. Wrath was a green lightning ball spell and Starfall was originally Hurricane (a storm formed over the targets and struck them with constant bolts of lightning).

I get that Elune really likes Moonkins, but Druids are more than just the laser chicken form. Hell, Moonkin nor Druids are even directly connected to Elune herself (whom at this point is very likely to just be a space robot. GG, Blizz…). She just likes them. Realistically, I don’t know that she even likes all Druids. She likely just likes Nelf Druids (which were basically just male priests of hers) and Malorne because she was boning him.

We also had insect swarm WITH hurricane. Sounds like they were saying “screw it! all things nature!” lol

That’s like saying that Shadow Priest shouldn’t exist because Warlock, Demon Hunter and Death Knights exist. Warlock’s and Mages both have fire. Etc. There can be overlap.

Furthermore, Druid and Shaman are two sides of the same coin.

Nature things like plants and bugs should be druid stuff.
But things like storms and water really feel like shamans territory.

No. It was just Nature magic. Not lightning. An old bad spell effect doesn’t make it lightning.

Shaman use lightning.

Also wrong. We had both at once at one point.

As Balance, not really. Not until they gave Zandalari their own form.

Well that’s just false.

They arent.

Your knowledge of lore is terrible.

Now I remember why I stopped responding to you.

Last time I checked, weather is part of nature.

Furbulgs view the word Druid and Shaman as literally the same class.

You are still just a mean spirited and spiteful child, I see. Going to run off again?

I think this was before blizzard decided to separate weather and nature aspects to classes.
Shaman and druids are both nature, but now druids don’t share the weather aspects anymore. Shaman strictly get the elemental part.
Like furblogs have been around since wc3, I can’t think of any recent content they have been in to actually showcase the separation of classes.

I still find it odd that insect swarm was ever a thing. Like you get elemental, astral abilities and… bugs?

With this logic, why are death knights associated with blood? I can only think of them really being unholy and frost. Why blood?

Wut? ._.

One of the wings in ICC is dedicated to blood. It’s in their roots.
Direct class quote, which makes sense to me.
“Blood death knights are dark guardians who manipulate and corrupt life energy to sustain themself in the face of an enemy onslaught.”

There’s always been some focus on the Astral as far as Druids are concerned, primarily with the Night Elves in general.

Starfall was for a good time the strongest ability that the Night Elves could utilize, and was only used by Priestesses of the Moon. Tyrande and Shandris (to my knowledge) are the only two NPCs in classic WoW that could utilize this ability to devastating effect. Look up videos of Horde leading Shandris to Orgrimmar and how she annihilates the entire city with a single cast.

Now it’s just a cookie cutter AoE spell, which is a shame, but the Night Elves certainly loved their moon and stars since they very beginning! I guess the Tauren just kinda…adopted it? Tauren and Night Eves have a good relationship despite the faction difference thanks to their common ground in Druidism.

A lot of the Nature-style spells seem tied to Restoration, as most of the spells are themed after growth, like a tree springing from the ground. I think it makes more sense that Balance should be more focused around the Astral, especially for the Night Elves.

Bugs are part of nature. Same as a cat or a bear.

I don’t know why weather abilities are so hard for people to get their heads around for Druid. We can still cast Wind spells to this day (something else that Shaman can do too). Malfurion is seen summoning storms and tornados at various times.

People are too caught up on “Class A gets this and Class B gets this!” Instead of thinking “Class A gets their powers from this and Class B gets their powers from that”.

Example: Warlock and Mage both have fire spells. They both use same fire, just from different means of summoning it. Other than Fel Flame, of course.

I know that’s the argument from the OP XD

Druids have star in their lore since… war craft 1?

Sorry I wasn’t clear in what I said.

Reading War of the Ancients definitely clashes with how these classes have been presented in modern WoW. Druids could command nature and the elements much in the same way as a Shaman, essentially being interchangible with Shaman, meanwhile the Priests of Elune were more like what we’d consider a Balance Druid, summoning beams of lunar light or causing the heavens to crash down on their foes. Heck, “Starfall” was an iconic ability of the Priestesses of Elune and Tyrande commanded that ability while she was a Priest.

Druids do still have some commands of nature, like Vortex and Typhoon that represent their mastery over the winds, but they’ve definitely consumed a lot of the Priestess of Elune identity after Racial Spells were abolished from the Priest class. I guess if they had to go somewhere, Druid isn’t the worst fit, as Druids are basically “Night Elves Casters” even if you play as some other race.

wut

I’m still waking up so I am not 100% on point with my lore stuff right now and what game had what.

True, but that’s turning into those forms. you can’t control cats/bears. But you can control insects. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

This also begs the question, why can’t druids have frost type spells since that can technically be weather. Like shaman hailstorm. What better talent to add so pizazz to a hurricane based ability.
