Healing is already very complicated, I don’t think we need nonsense like they do in XIV where the healer has to dps.
But not in Blizz land. My Brewmaster can outdue the entire group in healing and dps routinely through any dungeon or delve.
The issue is that, healers in WoW are not just “healers”. And Tank bran was nerfed to the ground.
This seems like a bit of an extreme take here. Thinking back to the last 30 years of mmos I’ve played, I can’t come up with any scenarios where the holy trinity held out to the standard you’ve set forth. Even as far back as EQ on release, the tanks in general WERE dps albeit more of a sustained dps. Healers still contributed a bit of damage and outside of very specific circumstances (really tough raids) very rarely got to only heal and that was primarily due to mana constraints.
Moving past EQ to stuff like DAOC, WHO, Rift, etc where the holy trinity was present still all of the roles contributed some of the functions of the others to varying degrees. You even had mixed tanks in some cases like Rift where you might have a tank cleric for example depending on their sub-classes, and they still did a fair bit of healing.
There’s other games out there, but those are just the ones that stood out immediately. I’ve played an awful lot of MMOs and while I won’t say it doesn’t exist, the trinity being pure trinity is extremely rare.
I can understand this point of view. I was more or less trying to explain that sometimes players just want to heal, none of this middle-ground-hybrid-playstyle of dealing damage between big heals. Some of us just want to sit back, heal, dispell, and keep everyone’s HP from reaching zero, and pre-nerf Tank Brann scratched that itch for us.
Never a more true set of words spoken.
It’s over 9,000!
Not sure when you played EQ but this was never the case for anytime I played. Clerics only ever healed, they might stun, shamans were hybrids that would slow/dot but healers saved their mana to heal and left dps up to everyone else. Tanks DPS was more a factor of threat plus taunt and those tasty weapon procs.
I was playing a cleric around release time. We did things like grind undead dungeons outside of raiding, and I most definitely used my full kit. CC, dps, and healing abilities. I was also a buff bot outside of healing, but I don’t know that counts. It wasn’t common for me to need to sit there and spam heal outside of high end content.
That’s how I remember it, too.
Clerics even coordinated macros to create “Complete Heal chains.” When it was your turn, you stood up, cast Complete Heal, and then sat back down until it was your turn again.
Oh really? Tell us more.
Well, ok ill grant you when you were fighting undead and the group didnt need healing you could use the undead nukes, but by and large it was never done outside of the outlier
Raids particularly were always mana race.
says a hunter in heal chat kinda of like the new way healing
I didn’t say I was going off myself, brainiac. But yes, it was a depressing change to the game.
Yeah I’m soo annoyed they haven’t fixed ancient teachings on brann yet. Let’s nerf him into the ground and not fix all the glaring issues
they can reliably do both. problem solved anything else i can help you with so you can hop off your soapbox.
I just use healer Brann when I am in port spec for my pally.
Group content is what you want, not solo content. In solo content, you have to do all the roles - and Brann is designed to fill one of them.
In the current incarnation of Brann, not much is really different. You really CAN sit back and just heal. Lack of DPS is not his problem. Occasionally you have to protect him from things so he doesn’t get 1-shotted. Those are mechanics that Blizz designed and wants you to interact with them.
No, pretty sure solo content is what I want. Groups tend to decline or kick me because of low ilvl, which only leaves solo content.
Those mechanics are poorly designed then.
You’ve really just backed yourself into a corner with absurdly specific requirements.
Just heal a target dummy.
I was healing him and DPS’ing at the same time… now If I am not constant 100% healing him all the time including most if not all of my cool downs in every room, he dies. The moment I press a DPS button (unless it is instant) he is 3/4 dead already and getting him back to health is near impossible.
