Do you understand how ridiculously easy it is to survive as a dps if you’re not actually doing damage? I’d survive to every wipe or reset if all I did was dodge mechanics. Someone actually has to kill the boss though, and if your raid wipes due to priority targets not dying quick enough, that’s as bad a mechanical failure on your part as sitting in a void zone.
I had to. Sorry.
I’m super happy for you. However, a lot of us would prefer a much more (to use an overly quoted phrase now) deterministic loot system… like how it used to be, back in the day. When loot was loot, men were men, and foxes were quadrupedal.
It’s good to be that free feeling, however, they matter in a variety of scenarios and if you’ve got too many people scraping the bottom, fights last longer, healers are more taxed, and in many cases, mechanics ramp to a point that a fight becomes much more difficult or even impossible. Meters allow people to have a metric for improving as well as data to evaluate their situation and determine failure points.
I appreciate your opinion, but I hope that never happens. It would be a death knell for this game. Also, side note: Surviving isn’t winning. Killing the enemy is in almost every single encounter in the game. You gotta do both.
Some people might want to play their alt at the same power level as their main, some of us just want to play our alts for anything other than generic world quest grinding. The power gap between an alt and a main right now is massive unless you put in a large amount of work into that alt… In the past, you could get to a point where gearing an alt up to a decent power level wasn’t trivial but it also wasn’t daunting to the point that people would just quit trying. With Cloaks, Essences, extreme RNG and the raw grind that most ‘power progression’ is tied to right now, getting an alt up to just being able to do M+ at even a remotely competitive level is a massive time investment. This means, most alts are stuck at much lower or older content, which isn’t particularly fun for most people.
Those two points have nothing to do with each other. I have no problems staying out of fire, I do have problems putting out reasonable DPS without decent essences. I dont’ need the BIS rank4s but, especialyl with corruption RNG, I do need to put a lot of time and/or get really lucky to get any of my alts up to be able to tank, DPS, OR heal. You keep talking about how numbers shouldn’t matter, but the fact is, thsi game is a spreadsheet with graphics. All it is, is numbers. They matter.
You should think on it some more. <3
Thanks for sharing, I disagree with almost all of what you said, but I still like BFA because of a bunch of other reasons. Most of what you said though… just doesn’t work.
People have a variety of issues with this expansion, the meters wouldn’t be as big of a deal if folks weren’t stuck in stacked RNG loot acquisition and would be less frustrated with alts if large portions of power progression weren’t tied to big, time gated grinds.
Until you have to hit up the sim sites to see if that item is actually an upgrade.
Just because you can survive doesn’t mean you can beat the boss. There’s a reason most of them have some sort of enrage mechanic. You need to be good at mechanics and your class to beat the boss.
Until you log onto your alt to play it and realize you have a several different systems you need to grind just to get to a playable state. It’s not just get some decent gear and you’re good, you have to grind your neck, grind your essences, grind your cloak, while hoping you get some decent azerite traits and corruption procs.
It’s not the worst expansion, but it’s nowhere near being the best. It’s mainly disappointing after all the lessons they should have learned during Legion.
Even outside of that, the expansion is a mess. The story line is hot garbage that doesn’t have any coherent flow or pacing. Sylvanas does some bad stuff at the start of the expansion, and despite everyone looking for her, she’s MIA outside of a few cutscenes. Then Queen Azshara and N’Zoth show up, and get dealt with so quickly that you have to wonder what the hubbub was all about. An Old God is finally released on Azeroth? Yawn, let’s just shoot a laser in his face. Now we’re heading into Shadowlands, that’s so out of left field that they have to tell us about all the retcons that have happened at Blizzcon.
The expansion systems are disappointing and the story is fanfic levels of nonsense. It’s nowhere near the best and is barely above WoD.
Here is SINGLE reason as to why BFA is the worst expansion.
Class design.
Straight trash can material. First impressions are important and when we found out that were losing artifact weapons and not earning any new abilities at 120 my friends and I were all like why tf are we even leveling to 120? We got azerite armor but we know how that mess turned out, we couldn’t even use it until we leveled our necks. Essences came out in 8.2 as an attempt to fix the mess of azerite armor. There us to be a time where we hit max level and our characters were fully fleshed out. No need to grind reps, no need to farm for an infinite resource, just hit max level and play the game. Oh we also lost tier sets because…?
Just class design by itself makes BFA the worst expansion.
Nothing how anything I wrote above had anything to do with meters, numbers, or raider io.
I’ve heard you out… now I am sad to inform you that you shall be banished in shame and your very name washed from these forums.
J/K Much
Are those 10, 120 alts geared up with at least 75 neck and maxed out BiS essences, corruption and gear tho?
Not sure why people complain about AP. Play the game and AP falls crazy. No matter what you do, you get AP and the catch up is actually really good. I’ve played an alt for a whole 3-4 hours combined and already at 72 neck level.
Lol a 395ilvl druid named Meows the Crazy Cat Lady… you’re not allowed an opinion.
Part of the reason wow is in such a bad place now is because of how hard they katour to the extreme casuals like you
Agreed. I put it behind Legion but before wod. Wod was my least favorite expansion.
uh…yeah
I mean, having to do that same mindless grind for a dozen or more alts isnt a waste of time at all
It’s not a grind. Play the game and AP adds up quick… plus, it’s alts. Why do people think they should be as powerful as mains?
dude…its the flipping definition of a grind.
I dont mind grinding. Ive done the MoP / Tiller thing more than a dozen times and loved it.
But an idiotic mindless AP GRIND for ONE stupid piece of gear I hate in the first place on all my alts?..aint happening.
YOU can love it all you want…WE DONT.
Simple enough…or isnt anyone else here ALLOWED their own gaming preferences while YOU are in the room, lol?
That just means your dps was so low that you had the least amount of aggro lmao
Post 2. A forum regular’s alt posting to make it seem multiple people have this same opinion.
Maybe if you play 10 alts. But again, why should your 10 alts be on par with anyone playing 1-3 toons? Sounds like you’d be happy if people hit 120 and were just handed a level 80 neck.
Exactly.
If I only had one or two characters, Im quite sure BFA would be the best thing since sliced bread.
It is horribly alt unfriendly for players like me who like to cap a lot of things with each of a dozen or more characters.
I dont mind ‘playing the game’
I do mind boring, empty, mindless, braindead busy work just because the game maker got lazy.
So maybe pick a few of your favorites. Why do you need 12 “mains?”
While I personally agree that the obsession with what io and meters show has definitely made end game content worse imo, they are definitely not the reason bfa is bad, bfa is bad simply because blizzard was lazy and dumb when they created it.
Cant deal decent damage, but then claim others dont have skill?
Im not saying the people who died to mechanics are in the right. But it doesnt mean you are either.
Metrics are a way for us to evaluate ourself objectively and improve. Just because someone uses it badly or in the wrong way, doesnt mean that the metrics are evil.
If someone used…i dont know, a pie chart to show why they deserved a job more than you, and then got that job… Pie charts dont just become a bad thing.
Stop trying to blame tools for things that happened in life.
oh…so I was right…WE arent ALLOWED to have OUR own game preferences while you are in the room.
Why do you NEED to play wow at all?
I play what I enjoy playing, how I enjoy playing it.
What I dont enjoy is empty dead numbers on a stupid neck that go up when I ‘just play the game’ instead of more interesting rewards for more interesting content.
