Why is 12AM not noon?

Except that one second after noon happens it is now after noon.

hmm… maybe noon could be extended to 1pm, to even it out a bit…

Because that how it always been

It’s confusing, true. I think it remains because of places where you have 6 months of dark and 6 months of light, like Barrow Alaska.

Military time makes more sense to use and is easier but would take a bit getting used to.

Does 12PM even exist? PM means “Post Meridiem” or “after middday”, but it’s not after itself. 12 Noon is Meridiem. It is neither pre- nor post- itself. Same with Midnight. It is halfway, so it is neither pre- nor post-, either.

Therefore, I submit that neither 12AM nor 12PM exist. Just Midnight and Noon. Now, 12:01PM is a different story…

AM is after midnight. PM is pre midnight.

I think it’s Meridian. As in Greenwich Meridian Time, aka GMT.

I nearly made that mistake, but looked it up just to make sure: https://www.dictionary.com/e/what-do-am-and-pm-stand-for/

Ah, Latin. I didn’t understand that. Now I do. Ty.
