Why have realms

You talking like how it is now ?

Because we don’t all want to run that add-on that people on Illidan use?

There are a LOT of characters with the same name on many servers.

They won’t do this.

1 server is not an option.

They exist to try to keep us RPers contained.

This shouldn’t be a concern, just give the name to whomever’s had it the longest. Everyone else is a copycat, anyway.

I don’t think a single server is a good idea, but the game definitely needs aggressive server mergers.

Yeah, no, that’s nonsense.

They need to be more aggressive about “holding” names for sure, but this idea is as equally terrible as the OP.

Or people could actually use their imagination when making character names.

So whats the big deal . In real life theres a lot of Kellys , Johns so forth

ever been stuck in a login queue?

times that by however many servers there are.

good luck on logging in… ever.

It wouldn’t kill the game. And those are stupid reasons not to just make it all one realm. Really no good reason not to.

I think they are slowly, step-by-step, moving WoW towards something approximating Megaservers, which is what most Modern MMOs run on these days.

WoW’s just old, man, and it’s based on old technology.

Realms give you a good example of what the community from that server behaves like before you choose to commit your time to them.

It use to but no longer . there is no server rep any longer

only from the point that nobody cares who you are.

realms all still have their own “vibe”.

and i really don’t think the RP community deserves to have everyone else (edit, i guess “dumped in their lap” wasn’t the best word choice) :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: …invading their spaces and disrupting their alternate gaming style

Names have been irrelevant ever since you were able to instantly rename yourself to whatever crazy nonsense and nobody would bother tracking it.

But, servers definitely have a temperament to them. I wont go beyond in description - but you will learn, quickly, in higher tier keys what servers to avoid at what times of the day.

Don’t be like Majordomo. Majordomo never saw it coming before Ragnaros killed their group. Always be prepared, and research your strategies.

Yes it would. Already seen games with mass exodus due to this.

More like you don’t even understand the situation, because you seem to troll other topics with “it won’t hurt anything.”

Are you actually serious to think that somehow putting millions on one server is good?? Have you seen the lag issues for events? This would not only destroy two huge RP communities, but people absolutely do get attached to names, guild names and their servers and would quit.

They aren’t.

My question is, why the hell do we have cross-faction if we’re limited to 90% of everything? Either unlock it in full or don’t have it at all.

Partially backend tech that needs completely rebuilt, partially baby steps to acclimate people, partially because not everything will go cross faction everywhere.

You’ll see cross faction auto queue dungeons only for full friend or groups eventually, but you won’t ever be able to queue by yourself for cross faction LFD. They don’t want to force people to play with the other faction if they don’t want.

You’ll see some questing possibly open up, but only in expansions like Legion and DF. If they do it at all. They might for DF when it’s turned into the new player experience. Older areas that were faction specific questing will most likely stay that way.

Same with cities. Those most likely won’t change. There will still be factions, so some stuff won’t change.
