Are you seriously comparing:
- 18% spell crit
- 10% physical crit
- 400 attack power
- 300hp
- 15% melee haste
- 15% all stats
- +15 all stats
- +25% stamina
with 80 haste rating with 100% uptime?
I just want to understand it.

I’m a leatherworker anyways lol.
But, I’d probably be annoyed if I was a clothy. They need tailoring, at least until late in TBC if I understand it correctly, and most of them probably want alch or enchanting for the stuff that provides.
It also locks a lot of people out of engineering. If you’re a warrior or enhancement shammy you’re going weaponsmith, and you probably don’t want to use up your other profession slot just to be able to hit a drum.
Like I said, I don’t think it’s the end of the world. Just seems like it’s something that they could easily change that would have a positive impact on the game. At the end of the day I’m going to have drums one way or another.
yes i am. because it doesnt matter if its a 1% boost or a 30% boost.
if an advantage exists. people WILL USE IT.
look at retail when it comes to mythic+ comps.
some specs are banned by some groups because they dont do as much dmg as the next spec. even if its by a small margin.
so yes. i’m comparing them.
I mean look at the people who spent hours and hours or hundreds to thousands of gold on valentines chocolate just for a 1% inc to their performance.
Until sunwell it wasn’t required, and honestly it won’t be required now to clear it.
Any cloth considering getting LW because they feel obligated “aka META-slave”, then I don’t feel bad for them.
My shadow priest was enchanting and Tailoring and I proudly stayed as it until the end of TBC.
My rogue was mining / JC and I just removed mining to get LW and I had so much fun with drums along with the melee party in the raid. I don’t want this fun to be taken away.
World Buffs aren’t required to complete Classic Vanilla raids, but folks still feel compelled to collect them all to be competitive.
Just feels bad to have one very overpowered item in an otherwise useless trade skill. And while it’s still the players choice, it feels really bad unless you were already planning on being a LW or LW otherwise benefits you.

Yes sir. You got it. This response is literally:
“We remember how bad the drums meta was, so we decided to make it even worse!”
I’d think if that were true or intended, they would have posted that in the blue post.
Drums weren’t meta. It wasn’t required. It is not required. If you don’t want to have it, you should stand like a proud man and say you don’t want to have it. If your guild kick you out, then make your own guild. Gather the people that don’t want to have drums. Succeed. Be a proud 80 parser without drums.
Maybe we should be asking ring enchants to require enchanting. Combat potions to require alchemy.
Then we destroy every piece of fun the game has until it becomes something no one wants to play.
Yes, that’s what I was doing.
Eh… its about the same really they both suck.
Saying literally no one stacked world buffs in vanilla is a bit of a stretch.
You can go on youtube right now and see Nihilum,Curse,Easy Company, Lost Anarchy, and plenty of other guilds using world buffs back in 2006. There is an old wowhead comment from patch 1.12 about how you should get world buffs for Loatheb.
So it appears the intent is to avoid having us do the min/max thing until everyone naturally did it in Sunwell to recreate that for the appropriate tier.
LW will still be mandatory for Sunwell, but only really Sunwell since the lesser drums will either be so nerfed as to not matter or only useful to stacked party members which is problematic on a number of fights. This doesn’t really make LW any less mandatory in the overall sense, especially if the lesser drums lack the cast time, and if the lesser drums truly are bad, LW will just get ignored for people running to Enchanting and JC before swapping back to their preferred professions.
Oh well. This doesn’t seem like a good solution, but I was going to be a LW anyway thanks to the niche gear I need as a Feral Tank. Can’t say the same for any other spec/class, and everyone is going to feel the heat to stack LW to the extreme for Sunwell which is just in time to be very annoying as people are going to want the new Engineering goggles, JC trinkets/gems, crafted gear, etc, while still juggling Ring enchants.
Anyone else amused at the hardcore players crying about how much pain they’re going to inflict upon themselves? They are their own worst enemy.
I fear the strategies for bosses that don’t have a mechanic requiring /range 10 will all be adjusted to have all groups stack on each other where possible. The length of drums buff is 30 seconds and doesn’t drop if you go out of range so it’s conceivable that a “stack now!” call could be used even for the keep separated fights.
Welcome to the club that’s been playing Blizzard games for over a decade. We’ve known what to expect for a while, and now you do, too.
uh did you see any of the changes that happened throughout the 2 years of classic tho
Make the lower drums use-able by everyone, the greaters have to be leatherworking, fixed.
this sticks with EVERYTHING else TBC… ok you can give people the spell thread if your tailoring but you can enchant the big spell thread if you are a tailor
The reason the change is so awful is because Blizzard is still attempting to appease the “No-changers.”
Read the proposed change. They’re basically going with patch progression on this item.
Why didn’t we make sappers and nades useable by everyone. Or ring enchants.
Or the mage purple robe recipe that drops in UBRS. Why not just make everything useable by everyone?
Why not make the drums buff only benefit the LW, similar to ring enchants and goggles? Going that direction, why not just make the goggles useable by everyone?
