Why FORCE New Players in SL to Play BFA?!?!?!?

Blizzard could just choose BFA as the default leveling expansion and let the player decide if they want to change it to older expansions. No reason to keep them locked in. I thought people wanted more player agency and decisions?

It does seem like a poor decision. New players would be far more likely to stick around if they play through one of the good expansions.

the mobs in elwynn dont have near the same punch as BFA, level for level.how will this effect new players? will they be slaughtered repeatedly and quit the game? Questions that must be answered. If it works fine then great. if not, it needs to be fixed before it goes live.

BfA wasn’t a BAD expansion. It just wasn’t the BEST expansion.

At best, it was in the middle.

However, the story dictates that a NEW player should go through the story preceding Shadowlands so they at least have SOME idea of what’s going on by the end of it.

Expansion outrage doesn’t happen once it’s done. They aren’t going to have endless grinds or content droughts.

That’s why WoD had a Harry Truman-like redemption all these years later. Blizzard is great at content and game design, they lack solid project management.

Yeah. Quality.

I stand by what I said, especially when I currently have to play in WoTlk and BC content.

This. People didn’t like titanforging, essences, corruption, AP grind, or paying through the nose for reforging azerite pieces.

When it’s not current content none of this will be an issue, all that people will see is a whole bunch of new allied races, cool looking questing zones, and BA giant frog. 10/10 would become a servitor of Krag’wa again.

BfA doesn’t really do that very well. A new player doesn’t see the burning of Teldrassil or the Undercity. They won’t even see Magni before they get sent to Boralus or Dazar’alor. I think Alliance will hear about Sylvanas a couple times during leveling, but that’s about it. They certainly won’t know why she’s so hated or what she’s doing in Shadowlands.

It is hard to say they will learn more about it by playing Wrath

WoD and MoP have joined the chat.

MoP was amazing. I made a panda and sent her home. Course, I never bothered with Timeless Isle or anything endgame more than the farm, because the farm was fun and Timeless was a whole lot of things killing me.

Oh no! New players will be forced to play content they’ve never played before?? What a tragedy!

Now is the winter of our discontent…

I know it’s really shocking to some people to see ole Bari agreeing with somebody like Vanillanoob, (okay i lie, nobody is shocked) but i genuinely do agree with him.

I really don’t dig Blizzard not giving new players the same choice we get to make as vets, even from the getgo, if their going to take a more RPG direction, because RPG’s allow you to start more then one place, even from the beginning.

And it rubs me the wrong way that people will go “Oh they have plenty of choice, they have races, classes and so on”, yet don’t think they can handle going to different expansions. Or the argument of “They will be confused” which, if they are confused, they can look it up. If not, then they aren’t curious to begin with. Or the argument of “BFA is modern leveling” while ignoring the fact that the leveling is nearly the same as WoD and Legion’s and not accept if WoD and Legion is outdated, then so should BFA; and also ignoring the possible suggestion to update the other expansions to bring them up to speed in terms of leveling, since it’s possible that were gonna have another world overhaul. Or just throw out the “You’re a drama queen” as if that’s the end of that, i’m just a drama queen because i want to improve the experience for new players and i don’t like this change Blizzard is doing.

However i have only a couple of contentions.

Now the difference maker between us, is i’m not against BFA being the sole expansion to level though as a new player because i think BFA is terrible. I’m against BFA being the sole expansion to level though as a new player on the idea that you only have one expansion to level though. If you make Legion the only expansion to level though, i would still have the same exact problem, and Legion is one of the better expansions we had in a while.

That and i’m taking into account that some new players, just want to play wow but don’t want to be tutorialized, or don’t want to hear BFA’s story, or want to pick something else, and so on. Players can play RPG’s for a multitude of reasons, and Blizzard does want WoW to go back to it’s RPG’s roots. And i think giving New players the choice would give them the better experience here.

Streamlining can be good sometimes, but not so much in an RPG. Not to mention, this was the same streamlining that bought us expansions like Cata to Legion. Yet this streamlining is okay for an expansion that’s suppose to take us back to RPG roots that’s suppose to have choices? Why are stopping here exactly? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I would nitpick this (and next one) comment in particular, because it seems pretty contradictory considering people are still playing BFA, not to mention the general idea behind it is flawed (unless your using “i don’t care” argument in a way to tell people to not give their opinion on BFA unless it lines up with yours), but i’l just let it pass.

To those who are wondering, i already nitpicked this in vanillanoob’s previous comments, and it’s a bit of pet peeve of mine saying “i don’t care”, because you are just essentially confirming that you care.

Maybe you’re going for Hyperbole here, but even then, it wouldn’t be correct because single-player games do and can have choices in them that you can make. Some can be canned or simple as picking which flavor of ending you would like, or something more complex like in … (cough cough) RPG’s (?). If you want to go for hyperbole here, you would say something like those third person linear shooter games.

Contentions over.

And honestly, that’s a great thing for new players. I mean think of how many times you picked up a game, you have no idea about it, you go in it, get yourself lost and immersed into a game. Essentially having this new toy feeling. It’s a first great impression the game wants you to have, and it’s important enough to paint your entire experience as such.

But to close off, i don’t think it’s completely taking their choices away. It’s a ltitle to hyperbolic. It is just taking their starting choices away, or “they don’t have it to begin with”. Either way you want to slice it, new players still don’t have the option to pick wherever they want to go from the get-go.

Huh? I thought we could talk to Chromie and level in whatever expansion we chose. Pretty certain that was condirned. How are we being forced to play BFA? Huge no from me if that’s true, i love leveling and am looking forward to finishing loremaster

Far as I can figure…its a dirty 3 letter word…e…g…o.
With flight being allowed in every old expansion other than BFA, when SLs hits that’ll be the only way to force new players to ‘see the world from the ground’…and how talented we are.
Im telling anyone and everyone who’s even thinking about starting WoW to do it now, or suffer later, lol.
Funny…its almost sounding like a sales pitch. Wonder if someone was thinking about that when they decided to do it this way lol

no…not if you were to start playing wow after SL is released…ie a new player/account. You’d then have to run BFA first, get into SLS and at that point you’d be able to run old content.

while thats cute and all…BFA is not exactly the best content for NEW players, lol
There are a few expansions Id steer new players I was referring into this game entirely away from…BFA would be at the top of the list.
Legion would be a FAR better first expansion.

BFA leveling was fine. It’s the endgame that sucks.

Besides, it’s so new players understand why we’re going to SLs.
