Why Enhancement shaman cannt use 2H weapon

Enhancement shaman is pretty cool and strong at clssic, but ally dont have shaman. Now it is 9.1. It would be nice if the enhancer’s skills were like the classic’s

Because Thrall said so. Since he dropped his hammer like a dunce he wanted to feel special again and got sole ownership over shaman 2H and Tornado flying spells.

How about the ability to use 2h agi weapons with a shield. Spear and shield combo needs to be somewhere in the game.

There’s 2 main reasons we can’t have it.

  1. People cried that Shaman were OP because we were 1 shotting them in PvP
  2. They’ve normalized all weapons and buffs, so if we had a 2H with Windfury it would be pretty useless and people would cry that 2h is really bad, prompting further work to figure out how to make it work

Personally, I stopped playing 2h during TBC because DW with double windfury was so insanely OP, but I’d still like to have the option, and I think they could fairly easily balance 2h and dw so that you have both setups and swap between them for different encounters.

Or even better… equip a 2h AND 2x1h, and have your attacks choose which weapon to use.

For instance, Stormstrike could be a 2h only ability, that automatically grabs your 2H and swings with that, so any procs you get are based on 2h damage, but then lava lash is a 1H only ability, so the 2H gets put on your back while you attack with 2x1h instead.

I think this could give us something unique that would actually drive a lot of players to Shaman.

yeah normalizing weapon damage took away the only real upside to two handed enhancement. the stupid huge windfury procs

That would be insanely cool… though the ability to equip a 2h and 2x1h weapons would create itemization problems. Could probably work it out with something like you only get stats from either the 2h or the 2x1h combo, whichever has a higher ilvl.

they got it working for monks…

Monks didn’t have half their melee toolkit built around their off-hand.

To design Enhance to work for both 2h and dual-wielding, lava lash and flametongue have to be entirely redesigned. They must either work for both, or only work for dual-wielding and the damage needs to be made up elsewhere.

Since Windfury is spike damage and rng burst, something else would also need to be added to make up for losing flametongue and lava lash.

The easiest option would be to let the imbues stack, and redesign lava lash to do a % of 2h dmg that roughly equals the same as off-hand lava lash.

This doesn’t even get into the difference in maelstrom weapon generation…as some compensation has to be added to 2h as well due to less procs.

Overall, its significantly more work than literally any other 2h/dw class out there. And the reward is much smaller due to shaman being a low pop class.

so from what you’re saying, they should get rid of OH based damage altogether, or combine it into one skill when you talent into 2H.

No, what I’m saying is…

Our spec is designed to work specifically with 2 abilities that only run off the off-hand. No other dual-wielding class is designed like this, save for a single enchant from DK.

Our resource procs off main-hand and off-hand, our weapon imbues proc off off-hand, and our lava lash requires an off-hand.

They would have to do a significant amount of work to get 2h to:

a) work with the current kit
b) balance out dps

As it stands, the only reason people want 2hs are for transmog or for big numbers. If you want big numbers, play Doom Winds.

Dual-wielding feels fine, and works. If you dislike it, Classic era servers exist and will continue to exist for you to play wait for the auto-attack swing timer.

ok, lemme bring it back a bit from over your head- what i said was based off your details, blizzard should…blah, blah, blah.

it was my 2 cents on how they can make it work. it wouldn’t be the first time spellbooks and/or toolkits were overhauled and/or redesigned. (and yes, there are a number of players who have said over the years they wanted 2H play again, just like DW’ing UHDK)

If we ever get 2h back, it’ll be as part of a new expansion, not a patch.
It’ll come with a complete overhaul of our talents, or the talent system itself, and shaman as we know it would not exist.

Bubbles alreasy stated why these levels of changes would be required, and Blizzard have stated that they don’t want to make those kinds of changes outside of new expansions anymore.

So we can hope to get it in 10.0, but it won’t happen sooner unless it’s done in such a way that it’s not eve worth using.

Windfury for instance does a somewhat fixed amount of damage, and its damage would be the same with a 2h without changes.
We’d only have 1 imbue, so we’d lose ft damage, as well as any synergy with lava lash.
We’d hit slower, generating less maelstrom, but they could double the msw generated by 2h attacks… likely wouldn’t happen because of sundering, crash, and ss.

Those abilities also do a somewhat fixed amount of damage.

So essentially if they did give us 2h, we’d likely see a 10% to 20% reduction in dps (or more) without a toolkit overhaul.

They had two chances to overhaul enhance

  1. legion
  2. shadow lands

Neither saw shaman moved to 2h because it’s too much work of a redesign. You are legit redesigning everything…from proc rates of Maelstrom, to balancing not only auto attack and main strike dmg ( which is the only thing other classes worry about) but also offhand attacks and buffs.

The code for weapon imbuea is old…as is the code for maelstrom weapons. We saw firsthand that:

  1. they can’t do imbues properly as seen by the dual windfury issue that arose
  2. flame tongue isn’t just procing on the offhand and rather than fix it, they just edit the tooltip to include both hands. This is an even bigger red flag indicator because this is proof they didn’t unprune flame tongue weapon, which only ever applied to one weapon but instead turned legion and BFA flametongue (which imbued both weapons) into the flametongue imbue.
  3. It took them a significant amount of beta to get maelstrom to go to 10 stacks properly, to where they had to do 2 separate stack buffs…one invisible that tracks the spell power bonus which caps at 5 and another that counts charges that stacks to 10

Current coders can’t even fix/redesign totems. Instead of making searing totem a dps cooldown like people asked in beta when it reappeared(like gargoyle, spitting serpent, etc.), it was just removed.

Two specs of the totem class don’t even have a fire totem outside pvp…

Expecting them to overhaul enhancement to 2h, which as explained, is not as simple as the other conversions, is a dumb pipedream.

We have the same big numbers with doom winds that people want from 2h. So unless it’s for aesthetic transmit, the peeps who want 2h because they hit hard…don’t actually understand how shaman is built and why it won’t work without a massive overhaul.

Not to mention, enhance has never had 2h viability during it’s current mechanic iteration (maelstrom weapons). Other classes did have it in their current mechanics before it was taken away.

2h enhance has only ever been during a time of autoattack and shock every 6 seconds.

I agree with this druid. 2H Enh would be a massive departure for the spec and it’s basically impossible to ever balance it correctly since it’s such an upheaval. You’d be ‘forced’ to use a 2H or DW anyways based on which one did enough damage to get you invited to M+ groups.

Also ya’ll are expecting to use a two handed axe or mace but you’re going to be upset when you realize that they don’t have Agi so you’d just be using a staff like Ele and Resto do anyways. Seems exceedingly unlikely they add agi to two handed maces and axes just for Enh Shaman.

The argument in reverse here is that survival hunters, druids and enh sham would have overlap between staff, agi axe (hunt/sham) and agi/mace (sham/druid). But this has largely been sidestepped by druid and hunter using agi polearms.

Simple Solution (I mean, not really, but it’s worth a shot right?).

Give Enhancement Shaman Strength instead of Agility, we are basically just warriors and we’re not cloth/leather wearers, or hunters, so Strength would probably fit us better anyway.

It would change some of the weapons/trinkets that we’d have access to, but warriors can use 1h weapons with Strength, so we wouldn’t be unable to DW anymore.

Or as part of 2h: Allows you to equip 2h Maces and Axes and lets you use Weapons with Strength.
Strength: Increases the physical damage of attacks (by enough to offset the lack of any crit/armor or whatever we’d get from agility).

But as much as i’m for allowing us to use 2h weapons again (because why not?), it would likely just be for showing off the big weapons in town as DW has been superior ever since it was introduced in TBC - this however was mostly because of dual windfury and because with DW we were able to maintain our haste buff permanently. So they ‘could’ make 2h viable, it’s just not going to be easy unless they take away weapon imbues and just give us permanent buffs to replace them (not going to happen, don’t really want that either).

Edit: Another thought… just make our tank spec Strength based, and give us the option of 2h tanking or axe/mace and board.

The simpler solution is just add agility as an option to all str based weapons. It’s all personal loot now so there is no longer competition between classes.

They currently allow for str to to become int on shields and gear. Open up the drop list for weapons to more classes and adjust the primary stat based on the class.

Shifting away from agi hurts out build more than you would realize as we us le it not only for AP but for crit as well.

they added INT to 2H maces for pallies the last 2 expacs, after removing it for the longest… but yeah, they never overhaul or redesign systems, right? because glimmer’s always been a pally thing, right?

you had to bring that up huh? lol. yeah, while they’re at it, give us our damn searing totem back. that was our whole identity and the reason i started playing horde after a month during vanilla- i saw this tauren shaman wrecking people in westfall with these cool totems, one spitting fireballs at you, and thought, “i wanna do that!”
